Continuing our car comparison series on Car Blog India, we today will be comparing the diesel variants of Toyota Etios Liva Diesel and Tata Indica Vista Diesel.
The Tata Indica Vista is as new as the Toyota Etios Liva and have a difference of a few days only. Both have been targeted at the affordable hatchback or small car segment and are expected to pull appreciable sales and this is the reason which aroused our interest in comparing the same.
Toyota Etios Liva Exteriors Vs Tata Indica Vista Exteriors
Toyota Etios Liva is a new product and features a blend of contemporariness and simplicity. Why we call it a blend? If you go by the exterior of the car it will definitely impress you as it is simple yet elegant. The chrome grille, chrome strip at the rear, alloys, skirting, spoiler add enough sparkle to the car and make it look quite sporty.
The Vista is an iteration of the very familiar Indica but this car certainly has all the goods to back the reputation of Tata. The car looks modern and quite aggressive and with the Vista line-up the manufacturer has come a long way. Solid built and sharp features is the is what you will observe when you see the Vista.
Toyota Etios Liva Dimensions
- Length = 3775 mm
- Width = 1695 mm
- Height = 1510 mm
- Wheelbase = 2460 mm
Tata Indica Vista Dimensions
- Length = 3795 mm
- Width = 1695 mm
- Height = 1550 mm
- Wheelbase = 2470 mm
The Vista’s proportions are almost equal to that of Liva’s with hardly any differences. The differences are not noticeable as the Vista is longer by a 20 mm, taller by 10 mm and has a 10 mm longer wheelbase which would not bring any change on the inside of the cars.

On the inside its all about the looks and the features and for sure both the cars give each other a tough competition. Dual tone fabric upholstery, centrally located instrument cluster, dual tone dashboard, are some of the characteristics of both the cars but importantly there is no attraction in the looks of the Vista.
It looks simple, clean and elegant and has no element of sportiness. The Liva contrastingly is better in design and overall feel. The fit and finish is fine but the quality of plastics is a little doubtful.
Coming to features the Vista comes with Integrated Music system with Blue S (Bluetooth connectivity) technology with AUX-in and USB support, dual airbags, best in class legroom, 60:40 flip fold rear seat, rear power outlet, height adjustable driver seat with LUMBAR support, steering mounted audio controls, ABS etc.
Liva is nowhere lagging and offers features like ABS with EBD, music system with aux-in and USB support, a large air cooled glove box, dual airbags, steering mounted audio controls and many other really cool features. In terms of space also, both the cars are quite spacious and provide enough room and comfort for the driver as well as the passengers.

Toyota Etios Liva Diesel Engine Specifications
- 1.4 Litre D4D CRDI Diesel Engine
- Displacement of 1364 CC

Tata has never let any of its products down because of a less powerful engine and this is why the Vista gets a 1248 CC engine enough to produce 74 BHP of power and 190 Nm of max torque in the range of 1750 to 3000 RPM. This means that in spite of being smaller the engine is quite responsive and good for city conditions but the refinement levels aren’t good enough to impress you.
The Liva gets a very refined though less powerful, diesel engine which delivers 67 BHP of max power and 170 Nm of max torque at 1800 to 2400 RPM. Although it is low on power and torque but if you love driving then this is probably a better car.
Toyota Etios Liva Diesel Performance & Handling Vs Tata Indica Vista Diesel Performance And Handling
We all are all well aware of the city driving conditions and therefore a better performance hatchback is what we always look for. Liva is really good on handling in the city though it disappoints you on sharp turns but at least it will not disappoint you with the overall experience. The ride quality of the Liva is also quite good and ride is reasonably comfortable.
The Vista is satisfactory in terms of ride and handling. However its not as precise as Liva so our pick will be Liva.

Car Blog India Verdict – Toyota Etios Liva Diesel Vs Tata Indica Vista Diesel
People who are looking for a simple hatchback and don’t want any additional features can opt for the Vista LS as it is lowest on price. If one is looking for a car which is good at features and also at price then you can opt for the Liva GD or the LX model but if you are concerned about all the safety and class leading features at a reasonable price then definitely Liva should be your choice as the top end model is almost 20 k less than the Vista ZX.
