Both are relatively new cars in India and have been getting good response from the new small car buyers as the selling point of both these cars is good value for money with low running cost. With the petrol prices in India touching new heights every few months, the buyer’s preference has shifted more towards the Diesel cars rather than petrol. The design of the two cars is extremely different. While the Liva is a more contemporary wide and low design with larger wheelbase, the Beat is more of a tall boy design with shorter wheel base, less width and more height compared to Liva. The structure, appearance, visual appeal of Beat and Liva are targeted to different set of buyers.
Liva Looks very simple, elegant, yet has a sporty appeal to its looks with its side profile and rear. The Liva has been designed to appeal to people in their thirties who prefer a more mature and elegant looking car with subtle style.
On the other hand, Beat has been designed for the youth, with loud and bold styling, sharp lines, highly sporty looks and vibrant design language. The car appeal more in terms of exterior looks in my opinion. Looks much more modern and stylish. So my vote for looks, goes to Beat.

Toyota Etios Liva does not beat the Beat in exterior looks, but on the interiors, the story seems to be slightly different. With its large cabin space, lots of storage, high quality of fit and finish, good leg and elbow space, the Liva seems a much better car on inside. The design on the cabin is good with nice ergonomics and optimal use of space. The Liva looks elegant and nice from inside. It can seat 5 adults with much better comfort compared to the Beat which is almost 100mm lesser in width.

Chevrolet Beat on the other hand is designed to impress the sporty drivers. With the looks, finishing and colour tone inspired by racing style cars, the Beat is altogether a different car. The interiors are not very spacious, but well finished and good quality. The major downside is that it is not comfortable for 5 adults as the interior space is not much. The storage is also less compared to Liva.
In practical terms, I would give my vote to Liva for a better looking and more spacious cabin with good storage space for 5 adults.

Comparing the Engine specifications, one thing is very clear that the Beat Diesel is designed with a much smaller 1 litre engine compared to 1.4 litre diesel. With the smaller engine, Beat Diesel gets lower peak power and slightly lesser torque. Being a small engine, it also delivers good fuel economy of 24 KMPL. But the Etios Liva Diesel engine is not behind Beat Diesel in any way. It produces much more peak power, also better torque and still manages to deliver a good mileage of about 23.59 KMPL. When it comes to engine, I would pick Liva Diesel for its power and reliability as the D4D engine is quite old, tried and tested engine compared to the 1.0 XSDE SMARTECH Diesel which is based on a Ace of an Engine, the 1.3 Fiat multi-jet which is world renowned for its reliability and performance. But since the 1.0 XDSE is a new engine in many terms, it will take some time to make its place in the market.
Toyota Etios Liva Diesel Handling and Performance Vs Chevrolet Beat Diesel Handling and Performance
When it comes to ride and handling, bot these diesel cars – Etios Liva Diesel and Chevrolet Beat diesel, both are tuned for softer suspensions. The Beat diesel has got different suspensions settings compared to the Beat petrol, so it handles slightly different. If you consider the comfort factor and ride quality, both cars do quite well at that. When it comes to handling, there is also not much difference except that the Liva Diesel has got a longer wheelbase and has comparatively less body roll.
On ride and handling front, we consider both these cars to be equally good, so we call it a tie.

Comparing these cars on the basis of price and value for money, it seems quite clear that the Beat has been priced starting from a very low priced PS variant which is the bottom variant with an attractive price tag.However, Liva Diesel comes with only one variant, GD, which is priced at Rs. 5.54 Lakhs with an optional safety package which comes at additional cost of Rs. 33,000.
For our comparison, we will compare the Etios Liva GD with the top end Beat LT with options pack to see if they stand close. Both cars ride on 14 inch wheels, but the tyre size of Liva is wider for a better road grip. The Beat LT comes with alloy wheels with the top end option pack. The Beat comes with rear windshield washer and wiper while the Etios does not have this feature. The Etios however offers a chilled glove box on the interiors which beat does not. Not to forget that Etios Liva comes with a larger and more powerful 1.4 Litre engine while Beat comes with a smaller 1.0 Litre Diesel engine. Beat top end variant comes with an integrated audio system with 4 speakers with CD, MP3, USB and Aux-in support while the Etios does not offer music system as standard. The Etios GD comes with ABS and EBD, but SRS airbags are not standard on GD variant, whereas, the Beat LT with optional package offers ABS with airbags for safety.

After looking into the detailed aspects on Liva Diesel and Beat Diesel, its quite clear that both cars have different strong points and weak points. While the Beat is a more feature packed and modern car, it lacks space and runs on a smaller less powerful engine. Etios Liva diesel on the other hand is more powerful, spacious, but lacks on features and exterior looks.
If you want a car for a family of 4 or less, Beat Diesel makes more sense financially and makes a better style statement. If offers good features and an overall affordable package.
If you want a car to seat 5 adults comfortably and are not too bothered about exterior stance, Etios Liva is a good choice with a powerful as well as efficient diesel engine. But you will have to shell out more money for full safety package and on in car entertainment system as it doesn’t come standard with Liva Diesel.
