Going by the engine specifications and figures, there is not much different in max power, but there is a considerable difference in the torque output of these two cars. Maruti Swift gets an advantage of being more punchy and easies to drive in congested traffic because of high torque. But there is a considerable turbo lag in Swift which means some gear downshifts required at times of congested traffic driving. So we would say Swift does better in terms of engine. Also Swift manages to deliver better mileage.
Maruti Swift 2011 Diesel Handling and Performance Vs Ford Figo Diesel Handling and Performance
The new model of Swift Diesel 2011 has been re-tuned to give a linear power curve and gives less punch in the mid RPM range. This makes Swift less punchy compered to the older model, but this difference does good to the fuel economy of the car by improving it to 22.9 KMPL (ARAI). In terms of suspension, cornering performance and drivability, it is agile and handles quite accurately.
Ford Figo handles quite good with a good punch of high torque at low RPM which makes it east to drive in city. The handling is good and quite precise. The cornering, stability and maneuverability of Figo is good in congested city traffic.
Overall, if I compare Figo Diesel with new Swift Diesel, Swift has an upper hand because of more torque and also handles better than Figo. So Swift comes out to be better on this front.

- Price of Ford Figo 1.4L TDCi EXi is Rs. 4.96 Lakhs
- Price of Ford Figo 1.4L TDCi ZXi is Rs. 5.19 Lakhs
- Price of Ford Figo 1.4L TDCi Titanium is Rs 5.57 Lakhs
Ford Figo Diesel top end Titanium variant comes at a price slightly lesser than Swift Vdi model. Since the top end variant of Figo Diesel features safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD, Fog lamps, integrated audio system with Bluetooth connectivity etc., it is a better value for money in its segment.
On the other hand, if you consider the fully loaded Swift Diesel Zdi, it comes at about Rs. 80,000 more than the Figo Titanium Diesel which is a considerable difference in price. Zdi comes loaded with ABS, airbags, integrated audio system without Bluetooth and Automatic climate control (which is not there in Figo).
Car Blog India verdict – Maruti Swift 2011 Diesel Vs Ford Figo Diesel
If you are looking for a value for money family car, Ford Figo is better as it comes at much lower price for the top end features offered with Titanium variant. It does lack the features like climate control and does not match Swift in terms of handling, but it does handle well and offers a lot of features for the price.
If you are not much bothered to shell extra bucks and want top end performance and handling, you can overlook the fact that Figo better bang for the buck. For the enthusiasts and driving heads, Swift is the most affordable performance car in its segment. It may not be the best family car, but it surely is one of the best Driver’s car.
