Hyundai India has launched the Hyundai iGen i20 2012 new model in India on March 28, 2012 at a starting price of Rs. 4.73 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. In the premium hatchback segment, Hyundai i20 is among one of the best value small cars which gives tough competition to Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo etc. In this article, we compared the Hyundai iGen i20 2012 New model with the premium and one of the most spacious hatchbacks in its segment, Honda Jazz. Comparing the exteriors and dimensions of the Hyundai i20 iGen 2012 with the Honda Jazz, the i20 is longer, wider and has almost equal wheelbase as Jazz. While the jazz is higher, smaller in length but still manages slightly longer wheelbase. The packaging of the interiors in Hyundai iGen i20 consists of a much longer engine compartment when compared to Jazz, this means in terms of cabin space, the Jazz feels more spacious and much well packaged along with high seating and high roof which gives good head room and plenty of cabin space and boot space in the Jazz. As I mentioned before, the packaging of the Jazz is done very smartly and thus it feels much more spacious and comfortable compared to the Hyundai iGen i20. Also the build quality and interiors quality of Jazz is really good which makes it feel quite premium from inside. But Hyundai iGen i20 is also very nice on the interiors, now with more sport interiors, it has got even better than before. The new Hyundai iGen i20 2012 does feel quite premium too. In terms of interiors, I would call it a tie.

Since the Jazz comes with only one engine option in India and the Hyundai i20 petrol, except for the automatic also comes with 1.2 Litre petrol engine, we will keep our focus on the 1.2 Litre engine petrol variants only. The engine of Hyundai i20 produces lesser power but more torque compared to the Honda Jazz. Also Hyundai i20 delivered more mileage as per ARAI test data, the power to weight ratio of the two cars is also quite close, so I would say that Hyundai i20 engine does have an edge, however, Honda engines are also well known for their refinement levels and peppy performance.
Handling and Performance
When it comes to ride and handling, the Honda Jazz does a better job with well sorted suspension setup compared to the Hyundai i20 suspension which is tuned on the softer side for more comfort but compromises on sharp handling.

Talking about the feature sets, Honda Jazz X over the Jazz Select adds features like better looking alloy wheels, drive seat height adjustment, power folding outside rear view mirrors, front fog lamps, rear spoiler, sporty blue black interior theme etc. to name a few.

But in most practical cases, Hyundai i20 seems to be a better loaded cars with some of the features not found in other cars in its price segment, so the Hyundai iGen i20 2012 Petrol does have an edge over the Honda Jazz.
