The first mass market coupe SUV in the country has displayed a decent performance on the Bharat NCAP safety test
The Citroen Basalt has been tested by the Bharat NCAP and the results are rather promising. Basalt is the first mass market coupe SUV in our market. The aim is to offer a premium and unique experience to the new buyers since this body type has traditionally been associated with premium luxury SUVs. Basalt features in the brutally competitive category which hosts the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and many more. However, the French car marque wants to distinguish itself with this interesting offering.
Citroen Basalt Bharat NCAP Test Results
The official safety watchdog rewards 4 stars to the Citroen Basalt in both, Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories. That is an impressive score. It scored 26.19 / 32 and 35.90 / 49 points, respectively. The standard safety kit includes 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts for the second row seat, ESC, Pedestrian Protection (AIS-100) and Seat Belt Reminder (AIS-145). In the AOP section, the vehicle was able to score 10.19 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16 points out of 16 in the Side Moveable Deformable Barrier Test. The Side Pole Impact test was deemed OK.
On the other hand, the coupe SUV bagged 19.90 points out of 24 in the Dynamic Score, 12 points out of 12 in CRS Installation Score and 4 points out of 13 in the Vehicle Assessment Score in the COP category. The test was performed with an 18-month-oold child dummy and a 3-year-old child dummy. Both of these used the i-Size CRS with ISOFIX / Leg adjustment. Note that both seats were positioned rearward facing. All in all, this is a decent score which could attract tons of new buyers.
My View
I have seen how important safety ratings have become in the last few years for car buyers. They have become safety conscious and prefer to invest in a car which gives them that peace of mind. In that regard, the Citroen Basalt will gain a positive image after the announcement of this Bharat NCAP score. It will be interesting to see what impact this news has on the monthly sales of the coupe SUV. I shall keep bringing more such stories about the NCAP scores of prominent cars as and when they are published.
