The first-ever coupe SUV for the mass market has been struggling with sales in our country
The Citroen Basalt posted its second-worst sales month in December 2024 with only 79 units sold. What’s even more concerning is the price hike of up to Rs 28,000 with immediate effect. We know that car companies announce prices increases at the beginning of each year due to the rise in input costs. However, when the sales of a particular model are already down, this can turn into disaster. The French carmaker is not doing great on the overall sales charts either. For now, let us get into the details of this latest case.
Citroen Basalt Sales Down
Interestingly, the sales of the Citroen Basalt never really took off. First launched in August 2024, it clocked 579 units. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there with 341 units sold in September, 221 units sold in October, just 47 units sold in November and 79 units in December. This amounts to a mere 1,627 units in 5 months. Considering the aggressive price and the segment it belongs to, this leaves much to be desired. It is surprising to see people not willing to spend on the Basalt despite a 4-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP.
As far as the price hike is concerned, depending on the trim, there is up to Rs 28,000 increase in the ex-showroom amount. The base You 1.2 MT version is now pricier by Rs 26,000 and costs Rs 8.25 lakh up from Rs 7.99 lakh. The mid Plus 1.2 Turbo MT and Plus 1.2 Turbo AT versions are now costlier by Rs 28,000, while the top Max 1.2 Turbo MT variant now commands a Rs 21,000 premium. Finally, the Max 1.2 Turbo AT and the dual-tone iteration are now dearer by Rs 17,000.
