The compact SUV segment from which no car company is shying away. In fact, every automobile maker is ensuring it bring a compact SUV to the market and the latest entrant in the segment is the American automobile maker, Chevrolet. Chevrolet Trax was officially revealed back in August 2012 since then it has been spied several time on roads undergoing pre-launch tests. It is one of the most anticipated car from Chevrolet and will globally rival the popular Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. In India, it will also compete with upcoming compact SUV from Maruti based on Maruti XA-Alpha. We are waiting for GM India to come up with some information on the expected Chevrolet Trax India Launch, which we believe should take place within next 2 years.
Chevrolet has just launched the Chevrolet Trax in South Korea and the car will hit the South Korean roads on the 25th of February. And seeing the CUV segment is India is gaining popularity with each passing day, we can expect an announcement from Chevrolet regarding the same in India as well.
The Chevrolet Trax will have a 1.4 litre turbo petrol motor under the bonnet which will be joined by a 1.7 litre diesel heart as well. The South Korean market will initially get the petrol motor with the oil burner joining the ranks at a later stage. The 1.4 turbo petrol engine comes mated to a 6 speed automatic gearbox with the base model of the CUV getting a manual gearbox as well which we believe will be the one which would make its way to the Indian shores. What comes as a shocker is the fact that the South Korean market also has an affinity for the oil burners but Chevrolet decided to skip it initially.
GM Korea will launch the diesel engined Trax at a later stage. As far as the variant aspect is concerned, the Chevrolet Trax will come in 5 variants which we believe is a good offer since every variant will find a lot of takers. The top end LTZ variant will get 18 inch wheels as standard and cruise control as well. There would be 6 Airbags for your safety and ESP will be complementing it. Leather seats, a Bose branded music system which we believe would not be present on the Indian-spec Trax. Automatic headlamps, electric sunroof and rain sensing wipers would also be making their way as top of the line features.
Mylink infotainment system which would Apple iPhone Siri support will also be the one that will make its way to the Trax. GM has been tight-lipped about the Trax making its way to the Indian roads but seeing that they’ve started perceiving India as one of their most important markets, we can not really rule out the possibility of the Trax reaching us. Trax competes with EcoSport and Duster globally and we so wish that we see this competition on Indian roads too
