Maruti Ertiga has made an entry into India compact MPV market at the time when there is hardly any competition to it at the price segment at which it is launched. It is much cheaper than the larger MPVs like the Xylo and Innova at the same time it does offer a lot of space and good fuel economy for a 7 seater car. The success of the Ertiga is quite evident from the fact that Maruti Suzuki got over 32,000 bookings for Ertiga in just one month. While other car makers in India are also working on their compact SUVs and crossovers like the upcoming Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport, the Ertiga remains to be without much competition till a really competitive MPV is launched by the rivals in similar price band as Ertiga. Honda is likely to bring its Freed 7 seater MPV to India by 2014. Recently spy shots of a new compact 7 seater MPV from Chevrolet have been leaked on the Internet. This compact MPV from Chevrolet is called the Chevrolet Spin and has been spied in Brazil. At first glace it looks like a larger Chevrolet Beat (sold as Spark in USA) because of its sporty styling and similar profile view, but Chevrolet Spin is much larger in size and has a seating capacity for 7 adults.

Some of the prominent design factors of the Chevrolet Spin on the exteriors include a large hexagonal grill at front, use of subtle chrome around the grille, large side sweeping headlamps, large front bumper with integrated fog lamps. large and steeply slant front windshield, high roofline for larger space inside the cabin, sporty roof rails, simple and elegant profile view, almost vertical rear windshield, chunky rear tail lamps cluster sweeping to the sides, large rear boot door with relatively small rear bumper. The Chevrolet Spin rides on large alloy wheels which seem to be the need of a car which is relatively large in size and is made to carry 7 adults in comfort.
Looking at the spy shots, the Spin looks pretty sporty from the inside as well with the use of chrome, dual tone dark coloured interiors and sporty styling language. Round knobs and sporty steering which is something similar to what we have seen in the Chevrolet Beat small car.
The Chevrolet Spin MPV has been spied in brazil and is expected to make its way to India in a couple of years. There is no official word on the Spin about its launch in India, but since Brazil and India are quite similar markets, we expect the Spin to be launched in India in next few years (by 2014). Chevrolet already has its Chevrolet Enjoy MPV lined up for India launch this year. The Enjoy and Spin will be placed in different price segments as we expect the Enjoy to be priced closed to Rs. 10 Lakhs segment while the Spin maybe priced lower in a price segment of Rs. 6 Lakhs to Rs. 9 Lakhs. Chevrolet Spin has been spied again at Sao Paulo roads in Brazil, this time it was in its full glory with Spin Badges placed on it and it was a video shoot and photo shoot probably for making a commercial video of the same. The launch of the Chevrolet Spin must be near which is why official video and photo shoots are being conducted for it. We will keep you posted on the same, stay tuned.
