Chevrolet India have been in a trouble of all sorts for a while now in India. Their facelifted Captiva does not manage a decent number, its mass offering- Spark, manages just under a 1,000 units a month and the saving grace have been Beat Diesel and the Cruze. They also had two products in their portfolio- Aveo and Aveo U-VA hatchback but those were discontinued due to the poor sales. Now trying a breathe in a new life, they launched the U-VA Sail which has started to manage decent units every month and looks like a brisk seller.
We have for you today the spy shots of the upcoming Chevrolet Sail sedan that will be one of the most important launches for GM in India in 2013. As the launch nears, the camouflage and foilage keeps on decreasing and judging by the spy shots, the launch is almost there. It’s only a matter of time that we see official unveiling of the Sail sedan as the test mule had covered only the badging of the car and the car could be easily recognized. The car resembles the hatchback version from the front and it is the attachment of the boot and new tail lamps which distinguish the sedan from its sibling.
The car will be offered with two engine options- a petrol and a turbo diesel. The petrol unit would be either a 1.4 litre unit or the 1.2 litre found in the Sail hatchback. The turbo diesel is for sure the frugal heart on offer in the hatchback which is a 1.3 litre unit good for 77 BHP-210 NM. The car is expected to have ABS and EBD along with driver airbags as standard equipment on the top end variants of the car and from what we hear, it might get a segment-first Start-Stop button too as an optional accessory.
After the entry of their hatchback Sail, it was a known fact that they shall soon bring in the Sail sedan to rival the Etios, Manza and the Swift Dzire. The Sail sedan looks better than the rivals in almost all departments and it is more of a looker compared to the contemporaries. The Etios looks dull, the Dzire looks awkward and the Manza looks big for the tyres it gets. So GM is all set to enter the entry level sedan segment with a proper 3-box Sail sedan that looks well and judging from the ride quality of its hatchback sibling, would ride well too.
Finally, we can treat ourselves to an entry level sedan that doesn’t look uninspired like its rivals and has a fresh look to it.
