Car sales by General Motors India or Chevrolet India has increased by 34% to 9508 car units in July 2011 compared to July 2010. This is an encouraging sales number amidst the slowing down sales on India auto Industry in general owing to higher loan rates, petrol prices and higher input costs. The July 2011 sales comprised 5255 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1502 units of Chevrolet Spark, 1707 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 621 units of the Chevrolet Cruze, 125 Units of Chevrolet Aveo, 123 units of Chevrolet Optra, 113 units of the Chevrolet Captiva and 62 units of Chevrolet Aveo U-VA.
Commenting on the impressive sales, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said,
“The growth was primarily driven by the overwhelming response to the newly launched Chevrolet Beat Diesel. In addition, the increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value propositions in terms of Chevrolet promise and our promise to deliver quality and performance have also contributed to the impressive sales. We remain committed to living up to the Chevrolet promise and fully leveraging our resources to offer customers across the country best-in-class products and services that meet their unique needs. Although we have registered 34% growth, the market continues to be sluggish due to the repeated hike in interest rates and fuel prices.General Motors India launched the much-awaited diesel version of Chevrolet Beat on Monday last week and delivery of the cars started only 4 days back. The car is still being launched in many cities across the country. The all-new Beat Diesel sports the 1.0 XSDE SMARTECH engine developed specifically for India by the GM Technical Centre in Bangalore in collaboration with GM Power-train Europe”
The strong sales of Chevrolet Beat and Cruze have done a large contribution to make this growth possible for General Motors India. Both these cars have a strong value proposition in their own segment.
