The price parity between petrol, diesel and CNG has created a new market for cars with alternative fuel options. At current prices, CNG turns out to be the most affordable fuel option. General Motors wants the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV to be successful in the Indian market and recongnises the fact that offering a CNG option would increase the vehicle’s appeal manifold. GM/ Chevrolet has been testing the Chevrolet Enjoy CNG variant near its R&D facility in Bengaluru, and today we bring you spy shots of the same.
The Enjoy MPV was the third launch from GM in 2013. The 8-seater Enjoy provides ample amount of space, stylish looks, riding comfort along with features like driver-passenger airbags, and ABS along with EBD. It makes a good buying sense for those looking for a spacious, comfortable, reasonably stylish and frugal family mover.
What’s new?
Design wise, nothing.
The rear windscreen of the test mule sported a sticker which read ‘CNG.ESA.3069′. This may well mean that the MPV meets the the latest emission norm for CNG and LPG vehicles of 3069 micro-grammes per metre-cube. The Enjoy CNG variant will be powered by a 1.4-litre petrol motor, which when fed with petrol produces 103 BHP / 131 Nm. The power figures when the MPV is running on CNG will be a bit lesser.
The Chevrolet Enjoy CNG may be launched by the end of 2013 and may cost about Rs. 50,000 more than the petrol only variant. Currently the Chevrolet Enjoy LTZ-7 (petrol) costs Rs. 7.09 Lakh, ex-showroom Delhi). Chevrolet is also expected to market the Enjoy CNG aggressively to the in the commercial vehicle market. The company currently sells about 2000 units of the MPV a month.
