GeneraL Motors has silently recalled its Chevrolet Cruze sedan in India. This Chevrolet Cruze recall is made to replace the Chevrolet Cruze’s faulty PVC bracket that grips the wiring in place in the engine bay. The Cruze sedan owners have been asked to take their cars to the Chevrolet dealers in India where the PVC brackets will be replaced. All this replacement work if necessary, will be done free of cost and the customers will not have to pay for the same. The whole replacement process will take around 2 hours to complete. This recall has not been officially announced by the company.
Chevrolet Cruze is sold only in diesel variant in India, which is powered by 1,998 cc 4-cylinder 16V DOHC diesel engine producing 166 PS of maximum power at 3800 rpm and a peak torque of 360 Nm at 2000 rpm. The dimensions of the car are 4,597 x 1,788 x 1,477 mm (Length, width and height respectively) with a wheelbase of 2,685 mm and ground clearance of 165 mm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
General Motors had also recalled its Tavera in 2013. Around 1.14 lakh units of its Chevrolet Tavera MPV which were manufactured between 2005 and 2013 were recalled to rectify emissions and specification issues. Talking on global front, Gneral Motors announced a recall involving around 316,357 vehicles globally,to rectify infrequent or permanent failure of the low-beam headlamps. The countries covering these affected vehicles were United States, Canada, Mexico, and so on.
However, Chevrolet Cruze recall is not the first car recall campaign in 2014 in India. Many other automobile makers have been recalling their vehicles lately. Earlier this month, Maruti Suzuki recalled 3,796 units of Ciaz which were manufactured before 7th November 2014 due to suspected fault in the clutch operation system of the car.
Maruti Suzuki in April 2014, also announced recall of 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and Dzire in India to rectify defective fuel-filler neck. The cars which were manufactured between 12 November 2013 and 4 February 2014 were included in this campaign. Every car maker is recalling its cars each day, though it seems cumbersome initially, it yields positive consequences later on.
