Here is our off-roading video of the new Mahindra Thar which can be seen doing wheel articulations and water wading tests.
Mahindra Thar has been finally launched in India with prices now starting at Rs 9.80 Lakhs up to Rs 13.75 Lakhs. At this price, it comes with a very competitive and attractive tag. The bookings for Thar have just started and the deliveries are expected to commence towards the end of this month.
Here is our video where you can see the new Mahindra Thar going through different off-roading tests. We had a brief time with the SUV at the Off-Road Adventure Zone (ORAZ) Gurgaon going through hardcore off-roading. The list includes wheel articulation tests, water wading tests and going through slushy roads.

The first one up is checking the simple low-end torque generation of the Thar, fow which we have enabled the 4-H mode and kept the car on 2nd gear. There’s so much grunt available on the 4H mode that you won’t need to take the first gear at many times. Then, you can see the hill descent control in action where the speed of the car is limited to 7-10 km/hr to prevent it from reaching excess speed.
The biggest and toughest obstacle was going through the wheel articulation test. Thanks to the active roll-over bar installed onboard and capable suspension setup, the Thar went through this like a cakewalk. Then, it goes through the rock climbing test where again, the 4H mode and the low-end torque help the car in crawling.
The new Mahindra Thar looks built for the slushy roads. You can see that we could easily go through the slush without even losing much of traction. After that, we went through some more tests which rounded off the off-roading capabilities of the new Thar. It also gets real-time adventure statistics that show the departure and approach angles, degree of inclination and other such information.

The turbo-diesel engine produces 130 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque and the petrol engine is good for 150 BHP and 320 Nm. Both of them get a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options.
