Ola is planning to foray into the electric car segment soon. The Indian EV start-up is known for offering performance-focused electric scooters and its shared cab business. It has enjoyed decent success with its electric scooters called the Ola S1 Pro and S1 Air. However, there have been some quality issues with some of its models creating a slightly concerning situation. Realising the trend of the future automobile market, it is preparing to get into the electric 4-wheeler category very soon. In fact, a few reports suggest that we might be able to witness the first electric car from Ola in 2024. This will give it a free run of sorts until the advent of the entry-level Tesla.

Digital automobile artists have a knack for latching onto any leaked images of cars to generate a full-fledged model themselves. This is the prime example of that. Based on the recently leaked images, SRK Designs shares their version of the EV. Anyone familiar with a bespoke design language would understand why this rendition is so close to a production model. The entire surface looks quite slippery which is crucial to achieve a high aerodynamic efficiency. A low drag coefficient means that the vehicle will have high efficiency and range. At the front, there is a sloping bonnet line that culminates into an LED strip which runs across the width of the front fascia with LED DRLs on either side, a closed grille section with air intakes on either side of the bumper to aid aerodynamics, slight hooves on the bonnet to give it some character, futuristic and efficient alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, black side pillars, minimum creases on the side profile, a sloping roof line indicating a coupe-ish sedan silhouette which is what we experience with Tesla cars, cameras replacing the ORVMs and a colossal glass roof. Overall, the design language is certainly leaning toward a minimalist pattern.

What We Think
It is no doubt that the future belongs to electric vehicles. That is why we see all major carmakers announcing their ambitious plans to curb their carbon footprint in the coming decade. In fact, even Tesla, arguably the most renowned electric carmaker, plans to setup a production facility in our country. Its first launch in our market would be the USD 25,000 Model 2. As the electric vehicle industry grows, there will also be new players in addition to the existing legacy car makers. Ola is one such player which aims to go up against the giants of the industry to capture a significant market share of the third-largest automobile market on the planet. But Ola is definitely not catering to the budget end of the market. We expect its EV to come with a price tag north of Rs 30 lakh. We shall keep an eye out for the latest developments in this regard.
