Mahindra is prepping the 5-door version of its mega-popular Thar SUV that is currently performing test runs in various parts of the country.
The 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar has been spotted under heavy camouflage as a test mule in Himachal Pradesh. The much anticipated and more practical version of the regular Thar is undergoing extensive testing, especially, in the mountains to test its performance. People buy a Thar for such adventures, so Mahindra has been testing the SUV in Himachal Pradesh for quite some time now. In terms of the exterior, the extended wheelbase is evident in the visuals. It is significantly longer than the regular Thar (around 300 mm longer). That will expand the space for the rear passengers inside the cabin and offer a substantially large boot compartment. In doing so, the existing Thar’s two most critical pain points will be resolved. That is the aim of Mahindra as well, to attract a wider set of audiences. The exterior and interior will also largely resemble the 3-door model.

Specs
While there have not been any official announcements from the Indian SUV maker, we could expect similar powertrains on the 5-door version as the 3-door trim. This includes a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel and a 2.0-liter mStallion turbo petrol with direct injection technology. However, the 5-door being significantly larger and heavier, these might be calibrated accordingly to compensate for that. Apart from that, the 5-door version will be based on the same ladder-frame chassis as Scorpio N and will offer manual and automatic gearbox options. There will be a low-range transfer case to enhance its 4×4 capabilities.
