BYD is expanding its portfolio for the Indian market with yet another impressive electric SUV displayed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025
In this post, we are comparing the BYD Sealion 7 and Seal EV on the basis of specs, features, design, etc. Note that the Chinese carmaker has been quietly expanding its footprint in the country for a while now. It already sells the eMAX 7, Atto 3 and Seal in India. All these are electric vehicles. At the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, it even displayed its upcoming electric SUV for our market, the Sealion 7. It bears a coupe silhouette and embodies a design much similar to the Seal at the front. For now, let us check out which out of these is more attractive for potential buyers.
BYD Sealion 7 vs Seal EV – Specs
Let us start with the specifications of the two EVs. Firstly, the Sealion 7 is a massive electric SUV. That means a potent powertrain is needed to achieve a decent performance and range. It uses large 82.5 kWh and 91.3 kWh battery packs with its trademark Blade Battery technology. This makes it one of the safest and most efficient batteries in the world. It uses Intelligent Torque Active Control (iTAC) and the CTB (Cell To Body) architecture along with the worldโs first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain. This configuration contains crucial components like VCU, BMS, MCU, PDU, DC-DC controller, onboard charger, drive motor and transmission into a single package.
In addition, theย iTAC system smartly redistributes drive torque via torque shift, precise torque reduction and negative torque output to minimize or eliminate skidding. The power and torque figures range from 308 hp /ย 380 Nm to 523 hp / 690 Nm, respectively. In the RWD iteration, the claimed WLTP range is a decent 482 km, while in the performance-focused AWD trim, this drops down to a still respectable 455 km on a single charge. With the top variant, the electric SUV boasts a range of over 500 km. In its most aggressive settings, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h. Using a 250 kW DC fast charger, the battery is juiced up from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.
On the other hand, even the Seal EV boasts some pretty impressive specifications. It is available in three configurations – Dynamic, Premium and Performance. In this case, the two Blade Battery pack options are 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh. Just like the Sealion 7, there are single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD configurations. The RWD version with a smaller battery pack will produce 150 kW (201 hp) / 310 Nm, while with the bigger battery, it will make 230 kW (308 hp) / 360 Nm, while the performance-focused AWD generates 390 kW (523 hp) / 670 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. These are some impressive numbers which propel the luxury sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Charging alternatives include a 150 kW DC or 110 kW DC fast charger. Clearly, it is aimed at exquisite performance.

Design and Dimensions
In terms of design, the two cars are distinct due to their inherent body structures. The Sealion 7 is a coupe SUV with a modern design language. In fact, it incorporates BYD’s “OCEAN Xโ design language. Hence, the front section contains sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a flowing bonnet for enhanced aerodynamics, a sporty bumper with massive housings on the edges and a skid plate-like section underneath. On the sides, I really like the massive wheel arches with matte black claddings, sloping roofline, flush-fitting door handles, black side pillars and massive alloy wheels. Completing the exterior styling, we have a roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated high-mount stop lamp, connected LED taillamps, a spoiler on the boot lid and a sleek bumper. All in all, it offers an imposing road presence.
On the other hand, the BYD Seal carries a sportscar appearance with a low-slung stance and slippery body. You will notice the similarities in the way the headlamps have been designed. However, the lower section is completely different with a unique side section of the bumper and black adventurous elements underneath the bumper. On the sides, even it gets the black side pillars and flush-fitting door handles. Also, there are characteristic creases on the door panels and the alloy wheels are sensuous. At the rear, it gets a rather subtle profile with a connected LED taillamp setup and a solid bumper without too many other elements. I must mention that exterior design is a subjective matter.
Dimensions (in mm.) | BYD Sealion 7 | BYD Seal |
Length | 4,830 | 4,800 |
Width | 1,925 | 1,875 |
Height | 1,620 | 1,460 |
Wheelbase | 2,930 | 2,920 |
My View
Now, choosing between these two can be quite tricky. This is especially true since we don’t know about the pricing of the BYD Sealion 7 yet. The Chinese carmaker will launch it in our market in the coming days. In any case, the choice really rests on your personal preference towards a body type. If you want a large and imposing SUV, the Sealion 7 will suit your needs the best. However, if you want a driving-focused sedan which looks like a sports car, the Seal should be your pick. The performance traits and the latest tech and convenience amenities are, more or less, the same on both these EVs. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these compelling propositions.
