What seems to be a continued effect of the BS6 transition, TVS has hiked the price of BS6 Apache RTR 180 yet again. The motorcycle now costs Rs 1.4 lakh but a new addition has been TVS’ Glide Through Technology.
TVS Motor Company has yet again silently hiked the price of the BS6 Apache RTR 180. This time, the bump in price is by Rs 2,500 and now the motorcycle is listed for a price of Rs 1, 03,950 (ex-showroom). When Bajaj launched the BS6 iteration of the Apache RTR 180 earlier this year, it was launched at a price of Rs 1.01 lakh which itself was an increase by Rs 6,700 over the BS4-spec model. With the BS6 update, the Apache RTR 180 saw its price go beyond the Rs 1 lakh mark for the first time.
This time also, there are no mechanical or cosmetic changes on the motorcycle and it continues to be identical to the BS4-spec model, other than the BS6 compliance obviously. The Apache RTR 180 last received an update in 2018 when it was given a new colour scheme, different seat material, white back-lit speedometer and a redesigned crash guard. It continues to be powered by a 177.4cc, two-valve, air-cooled engine that produces 16.5hp at 8,500rpm and 15.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
There is however an addition of a very small nifty feature and that is TVS’ new Glide Through Technology. This tech ensures that the engine always pulls cleanly at every rpm so that the use of the clutch is minimized and the motorcycle can move at crawling speeds without needing to change the gear or pull the clutch. Your engine will basically not stutter and stall even if the rpms fall too low. This should make riding the motorcycle in stop go traffic much more easier. TVS also introduced this tech on some of their other motorcycles lately too.

To highlight other mechanical hardware of the BS6 Apache RTR 180, the motorcycle gets petal disc brakes – 270mm at the front and 200mm at the rear – along with a single-channel ABS system. It will also continue to feature a double cradle frame, telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear for suspension duties. The kerb weight of the motorcycle is 141 kg which is actually 2 kg heavier than the BS4-spec model.

The TVS Apache RTR 180 has always been a great value for money offering and is one of the most complete motorcycles in its class. Even with a bump in price, it still remains a very lucrative offering at its price point and still one of the cheapest offerings in its segment. The Apache RTR 180 competes with the likes of the BS6 Suzuki Gixxer (which costs considerably more at Rs 1.12 lakh) and the Yamaha FZ V3.0.
