The BS6 Toyota Fortuner does not see any price hike and both its petrol have diesel engines have been given the update. The SUV remains unchanged otherwise.
With the BS6 emission deadline approaching closer and closer, Toyota has now launched the BS6 Fortuner. The BS6 Fortuner continues with both its 2.7 Liter petrol and 2.8 Liter diesel engines. The BS6 Toyota Fortuner now has a price of Rs 28.18 lakhs ex-showroom. Here’s a detailed variant-wise price list of the BS6 Fortuner.
BS6 Toyota Fortuner Variants | Price (ex-showroom) |
2.7L 4×2 MT Petrol | Rs 28,18,000 |
2.7L 4×2 AT Petrol | Rs 29,77,000 |
2.8L 4×2 MT Diesel | Rs 30,19,000 |
2.8L 4×2 AT Diesel | Rs 32,05,000 |
2.8L 4×4 MT Diesel | Rs 32,16,000 |
2.8L 4×4 AT Diesel | Rs 34,20,000 |
The Fortuner is powered by two engines in India – there’s a 2.8 liter turbo-diesel engine and 2.7 liter petrol engine. Both the engines have been updated to comply with the BS6 norms. The engines dol not see any difference in their outputs with the BS6 update. The 2.8-litre, four cylinder turbo-diesel engine produces 177hp and 420Nm of torque in BS4 spec and we expect it to remain the same. The output of the BS6-compliant 2.7-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit is also expected to remain unchanged at 166hp and 245Nm of torque.
Interestingly, the 2.8 liter turbo-diesel engine also came on the BS4 spec Toyota Innova Crysta but with the BS6 update, Toyota has discontinued that engine in the Innova Crysta. Coming back to the Fortuner, both the engine will either come mated to 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. In fact, the diesel engine produces 30 Nm of more torque when paired with the automatic gearbox. The diesel will also continue to be offered with four-wheel drive (4WD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) options, while the petrol will only come with the latter.

Other than the BS6 compliance, the Fortuner remains more or less unchanged. On the interiors, the dashboard and features list will also remain identical. It will come with two interior colour schemes – dark brown and Chamois (beige) – as before. Features on board will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with embedded navigation, paddleshifters (for the automatic only), 7 airbags, vehicle stability control with brake assist, hill-assist control and ABS with EBD will also be present on the higher-spec variants.

Interestingly, the BS6 Fortuner does not see a price hike with the update. Currently, the BS4 Fortuner petrol was priced between Rs 28.18-29.77 lakh, while diesel prices range from Rs 30.19-34.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it still remians the same. The SUV will continues to compete against the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Isuzu MU-X, all of which are yet to be updated to BS6 emission standards.
