The BS6 Toyota Camry now gets a price of Rs 37.88 lakh which is Rs 93,000 more expensive than the BS4-spec mode. The hike comes on account of BS6 update and a standard price hike for the new financial year.
There was just one missing piece from Toyota’s BS6 puzzle and that was the Camry. Toyota has now announced that the BS6-compliant Camry will be available in India for a price of Rs 37.88 lakh, ex-showroom. The price for the BS6 Toyota Camry thus sees a very steep hike of Rs 93,000. The BS4-spec Camry was available for a price of Rs 36.95 lakh, ex-showroom. The hike in price is not only on account of the BS6 update but also includes a standard price hike for the new financial year.
Under the hood, the BS6 Camry continues with the same 2.5-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain that has just been updated to comply with the stricter emission norms. The 2.5L, four-cylinder petrol engine on the Camry produces 175hp of power and 221Nm of torque. The petrol engine is further mated to an electric motor which produces an additional 118hp and 202Nm of torque. Combined output from the system however stands at 215hp and the peak torque remains at 221Nm. The powertrain only comes mated to a CVT gearbox.
The Camry can be driven in pure EV mode, pure ICE mode or in a combination of both. The Camry is the only mass market petrol hybrid car available in the Indian market until you go for some luxury brands like Lexus, BMW, or Volvo. And mind you, by hybrid cars we mean proper hybrid cars with a dedicated EV mode and not mild hybrid cars like the MG Hector, Maruti Suzuki Baleno or the Ciaz. That makes the Camry a very unique offering not only in its segment but across a much broader spectrum. Yes, its expensive but its unlike any other car.

The Camry is thus currently Toyota’s flagship offering in India until you really count the Vellfire which operates on a entirely different segment. It is offered only in a single variant and naturally comes loaded with all the bells and whistles. Some of these features include a touchscreen infotainment system, powered front seats with ventilation, a JBL sound system, cruise control, heads-up display, a power adjustable steering column, rear sunblind and of course, a sunroof. In terms of safety features, the Camry comes equipped with nine airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear view camera, parking sensors, ESC and an electric parking brake as well.

Toyota offers the BS6 Camry in India in seven color options. These include white, silver, red, brown, graphite and two shades of black. Currently, the Camry does not have any direct competitor in India. However, once the next-gen Skoda Superb has arrived in India, it will face some competition from the same. The Camry also rivaled the Honda Accord Hybrid but that has now been discontinued in the country.
