Ahead of its launch, Skoda has revealed the variants and color options on the BS6 Rapid. It will be available in five variants and will come as a petrol-only model.
Skoda opened bookings for the BS6 Rapid a couple of months ago for an amount of Rs 50,000 and the sedan will be launched in the market as soon as the nation-wide lockdown is lifted. Ahead of its launch, Skoda has revealed several details about the BS6 Rapid including its variants and color options. The BS6 Rapid also comes with a change of heart that has already made its debut on the Volkswagen Polo and Vento.
The BS6 Skoda Rapid will be available in five variants – Active, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo. Interestingly, the ‘Onyx’ variant was previously offered as a limited edition model on the Rapid. However, with the updated car, Skoda has made it a standard variant across the Rapid range. The color option on the BS6 Rapid vary depending on the trim you chose, so here’s a table summarizing the same for you.

Coming back to what’s under the hood, the BS6 Skoda Rapid will be powered by a new 1.0L TSI petrol engine. This engine produces 110bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. As mentioned earlier, the same engine is also offered on the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the Vento sedan as well. The engine produces the same amount of power and torque on the Polo and the Vento as well. Initially, the BS6 Rapid will only be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the automatic gearbox option will be introduced at a later point of time.

Going into the BS6 era, the Skoda Rapid is now a petrol-only model and Skoda does not have any plans of bringing back the diesel engine anytime soon. The 1.5-litre TDI and 1.6-litre MPI engine options have been discontinued. Skoda showcased the Rapid Matte Concept at the Auto Expo 2020, and that came with the new turbo petrol motor under its hood. Skoda had even said that they are going to launch the showcased concept in India sometime later in the year. However, with the current coronavirus crisis, it is uncertain as when it will actually come.

In the international markets, the Rapid has got a new generation update with new engines, major cosmetic tweaks and a revised platform. However, in India, the new version will not come in the near future, but there might be a facelift incoming. The Rapid TSI rivals the likes of the VW Vento BS6, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris and the upcoming 2020 Honda City.
