Piaggio has launched the BS6 compliant versions of the Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 and they see a mild drop in output numbers but a steep hike in price.
Amidst this lockdown, Piaggio has launched the BS6 complaint versions of the Vespa SXL 149 and the VXL 149 scooters in India. The BS6 Piaggio Vespa SXL 149 is now available for a price of Rs 1,26,650 while the BS6 Vespa VXL is available for a price of Rs 1,22,664, all prices ex-showroom Delhi. The new Vespa scooters come fitted with three catalytic converters to reduce the emission of harmful pollutants. The new BS6 Vespa SXL 149 and VXL 149 replace the previous Vespa SXL 150 and VXL 150 respectively.
Like most other BS6 conversions, the Vespa scooters have also seen a slight drop in output numbers in order to comply with the stricter emission norms. The change only lies in the mechanical front where the 149cc single-cylinder, 3 valve motor now produces 10.32 bhp of max power and 10.6 Nm of peak torque. The motor also comes with fuel injection. The BS4-spec model however came with 150cc engine that produced 10.45 bhp & 10.9 Nm of torque. The drop is however quite minimal to make any difference in the real world.
There are no changes on the scooters in terms of styling. They both continue to sport a very youthful design and yet have an old school and retro appeal. Standout features on the BS6 Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 scooters include monocoque full-steel body, signature LED headlamps, sleek front fenders, a well contoured seat, alloy wheels, broader tubeless tires, a digital instrument cluster, a visor and much more.

The overall dimensions of the scooters also remain identical as before. The length of the scooter measures at 1,770 mm, the width is 690 mm and height is 1,140 mm. For suspension duties, both the scooters get single sidearm front suspension setup which also have anti-dive characteristics and a hydraulic shock absorber with dual-effect at the rear. For braking duties, both the scooters are equipped with 200 mm ventilated front disc brake and 140 mm rear drum brake. The scooter gets dual-channel ABS too.

Piaggio offers 7 color options to chose from for the BS6 Vespa VXL 149 – Yellow, Matt Black, Vibrant Red, Vibrant Pink, Azzuro Provenza, White and Maze Grey. Meanwhile, the BS6 Vespa SXL 149 is available in 5 shades of color – Matt Black, Orange, Matt Red Dragon, Matt Blue and White. Both the scooters however see a considerable hike in price of about Rs 20,000 with the BS6 update.
