Bajaj has updated the Avenger Cruise 220 and Street 160 for BS6 compliance with both their price going up by about Rs 11,000. Interestingly, they have left the Avenger Street 220 out of the mix.
The BS6 emission norms have been effective since April 1, 2020 and Bajaj is now coming up with their updated BS6 portfolio. Of course with the lockdown in place, there are no fancy launch events but the manufacturer is silently updating its website with the price of its new BS6 range of motorcycles. Bajaj has completely updated the Pulsar range and now we have the prices of the BS6 Avenger range as well. The BS6 Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is now available for a price of Rs 1,16,672 while the Avenger Street 160 is available for a price of Rs 94,893.
With the BS6 update, both the Avenger Cruise 220 and the Street 160 have seen a considerable hike in price. To be precise, the Cruise 220 is Rs 11,584 more expensive than its BS4 predecessor while the Street 160 is Rs 11,642 more than before. Are you wondering why these motorcycles see such a steep rise in their price? Well, we will answer it for you.
Both the Avenger Cruise 220 and the Street 160 were carburetted motorcycles. With the BS6 update however, both the motorcycles now get a fuel-injection system along with a new ECU and an additional catalytic converter that’s needed to comply with the stricter emission norms. As a result of all these updates, the motorcycles see a sizeable increase in price.

On the good side, while most motorcycles may have lost marginal engine outputs due to BS6 compliance, the Avengers have retained their numbers. The Cruise 220 continues to put out 19.03PS while the Street 160 retains its 15PS figure. In fact, what is more interesting is that peak torque on the Street 160 has actually gone up by 0.2Nm, up to 13.7 Nm. Although not a huge difference, it might just make the motorcycle feel a little more sprightly.

Other than the changes to the engine for BS6 compliance, there are no other updates on either the Avenger Cruise 220 or the Street 160. If you did notice, we haven’t spoken anything about the Avenger Street 220. That’s because Bajaj hasn’t yet revealed the prices of the BS6 Street 220. That’s unusual as it uses the same engine from the Cruise 220. Could this mean that Bajaj is planning to discontinue the Street 220 from their lineup? Well, only time will tell and so stay tuned to CarBlog India for more such updates.
