Recently, TVS just launched the BS-6 compliant Apache RTR 160 4V and RTR 200. Both of them get some minor upgrades along with the compliant engine. The prices have also been increased by a considerable margin.
The only other 160cc motorcycle with a BS-6 engine is the Yamaha FZ-S V3. It was launched a couple of months ago and was amongst the earliest BS-6 motorcycles. So, here we compare the BS-6 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V against the BS-6 Yamaha FZ-S V3.

The BS-6 engines have increased the prices of both the motorcycles by nearly 3,000 to Rs 4,000. The BS-6 Apache now starts at Rs 99,950 up to Rs 1.03 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). It now comes with FI as standard and in two variants – Rear Drum Brake and Rear Disc Brake.
The FZ-S is priced similarly, from Rs Rs 1.01 Lakhs to Rs 1.03 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It is available in one variant, but different colour options. The Darknight variant is the costliest, at Rs 1,02,700.

Definitely, with the BS-6 engines, the power figures on both of them have been affected. As for the Apache, it gets the same 159.7cc air-cooled engine with Race-Tuned Fuel Injection. So, with the Race FI, the throttles are quicker and sharper. The engine now produces 16.02 BHP and 14.12 Nm of peak torque. That’s in comparison to the BS-4 engine producing 16.80 BHP and 14.8 Nm of torque.
As for the Yamaha FZ-S V3 FI, it now produces 12.4 BHP and 13.6 Nm of peak torque. In comparison to the BS-4 figures, the power is down from 13.2 BHP, but the torque is higher from 12.8 Nm.

With changes to the engine for BS-6 compliance and reduction of power figures, the mileage for both of them has been increased by 10-15%. As for the Apache, it is now estimated to offer 50 kmpl. With a fuel tank capacity of 12 Litres, the Apache should offer a riding range between 550-600 kms.
As for the FZ-S, it is estimated to now produce 52 kmpl, making it the most fuel-efficient in its class. With a fuel tank capacity of 13 Litres, the riding range should be between 600-650 kms.
