SUV maker Mahindra has rewarded Nikhat Zareen with a new Thar SUV after the Indian boxer secured her second World Championship title on 26th March at the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Zareen won her second World Championship title on 26 March against Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam 5–0. The champion was also rewarded with $100,000 as prize money for her victory.
Nikhat Zareen Initially Thought of Buying a Mercedes
Nikhat Zareen won her first world championship title in boxing on May 19, 2022, in Istanbul, Turkey. She defeated Jitpong Jutamas of Thailand 5–0 in the final of the flyweight (52 kg) category championship, and with this victory, Zareen became the fifth Indian woman to win a world title. In 2012, she won the gold medal at the AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships. Zareen has also won 2 gold medals in the Indian Open Boxing Tournament and a silver medal in the Asian Boxing Championship. Initially, Zareen thought of using her prize money to buy a Mercedes car but changed her plans after Mahindra announced that she would be rewarded with a Thar SUV. Commenting on this, the carmaker announced that the Thar has been awarded to appreciate this colossal achievement. Furthermore, Zareen also shared her intentions to share the photographs of the car with her parents.
Apart from the award, Mahindra will also be undertaking the Road to Gold initiative in association with the Boxing Federation of India. The initiative aims to capture in video form a series of personal journeys of boxers who have shown the hard work, dedication and perseverance they have gone through to achieve success. Not the First Time Mahindra has Felicitated an Athlete
Mahindra has a history of honoring champion athletes with special edition vehicles. The carmaker had rewarded Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra with a Javelin version of its flagship SUV, the XUV700. Sumit Antil, who won gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, has received a personalized XUV700 javelin edition. Nikhat Zareen continues to grow in stature as she adds a second world title to her trophy cabinet. While Lovlina Borgohain broke her bronze jinx to claim her maiden gold medal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on Sunday.
