In a bizarre turn of events, the bonnet of a moving SUV allegedly opened and broke the windshield by hitting it. This is something we don’t get to witness all that often. Nonetheless, it is a rather common affair not just in India but across the globe. Tata Harrier has demonstrated strong sales performance since its introduction. Nevertheless, owing to a swift surge in competitive offerings, the existing model requires a comprehensive revamp. Tata is actively engaged in enhancing the SUV by incorporating fresh technology and convenience enhancements. There is also a possibility of introducing a new powertrain to appeal to a wider range of consumers. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest case.

Bonnet of Tata SUV Opens on its Own
This post comes from a certain giri raj sharma on Twitter. He mentions that he got his SUV serviced at a Tata Motors service centre. However, it is possible that the staff left the bonnet slightly open. Alternatively, it is also possible that the locking mechanism might have had some issues. In any case, the bonnet was partially open. The owner was driving the SUV with his family on a highway. Suddenly, it flew open and hit the windshield, breaking it instantly. The visuals are evident in this video clip.

Needless to say, this is a terrifying moment for any car driver. Somehow, he was able to come to a standstill. No one was injured in this incident. This is quite bizarre and unfortunate. We could imagine how scary it must have been for the duration when the driver was unable to see anything due to the bonnet. The visuals also capture the damage to the SUV. The SUV doesn’t come with a bonnet open warning system. That is why no one was able to detect it until it was too late. We are just glad that everyone was safe in this case.

What We Think
There could be a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, after the service, the staff might have not paid attention to the fact that the hood was open. Secondly, it is also possible that the locking mechanism was dysfunctional. In any case, it would be great for all cars to come with a foolproof bonnet open detection system to warn the driver. Otherwise, anyone hardly ever goes to check it before driving. Also, even if it is partially open, it is almost impossible to tell the difference for an average car owner. If it was careless on the part of the service personnel, we hope that Tata Motors becomes strict about these things.
