BMW TVS G 310 R Production Spec Model Unveiled
We reported in detail when it emerged that Bavarian bike manufacturer BMW Motorrad and Hosur-based TVS Motor Co. have forged a partnership to jointly develop a low capacity motorcycle. (Earlier Story on BMW TVS Bike) As decided in the agreement between BMW and TVS, both the manufacturers have come together to produce a new sub-500cc motorcycle called the G 310 R. This new bike is targeted at developing markets such as that of India and Indonesia. In India, two versions of the BMW G310R will be produced – one by TVS and another one by BMW. The latter will be a more premium offering that the former and will command a significant price premium as well. In a statement to media, a TVS spokesperson said,”The company will introduce two new motorcycles this year, including TVS Victor and a high powered premium bike.” BMW had earlier showcased the Concept Stunt G 310 which is based on the BMW-TVS product sans the usual road going features. Read on to find more about the upcoming BMW TVS bike here.
Launch
The two manufacturers haven’t been too vocal about the BMW TVS bike India launch date, but our guess is that this model could enter our bike market in the first half of 2016. The G 310 R is expected to make its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February next year.
Price
Rest assured, BMW will leverage its partner’s strengths of low-cost production. Hence, the upcoming bike’s price in India could be well under INR 2 lakhs which will enable it to take on the likes of the Benelli TNT 25 and Mahindra Mojo. It will be interesting to see how TVS positions the motorcycle considering the new 200cc Apache is also scheduled for launch next year.

Specs
Powering the bike is a 313 cc water-cooled single cylinder engine. Peak power is rated at 34 PS @ 9500 rpm and peak torque at 28 Nm @ 7500 rpm. This single cylinder motor is mated to a 6-speed transmission. BMW is claiming a top speed of 145 km/h. Braking duties are handled by a 300 mm disc up front and a 240 mm disc at the back and the G 310 R comes with ABS as standard.
We recently got to know that the TVS-BMW co-developed bike will come shod with TVS Srichakra radial tyres. It has been reported that P Vijayaraghavan, Director, TVS Srichakra has said that his company is busy with the development of radial tyres for the upcoming TVS-BMW motorcycle. He further said that two different kind of tires are being developed.
Design and Features
As can be seen in the images, the motorcycle is a street-naked design. Front suspension will comprise of upside down forks and the front wheel gets a single disc-brake. The bike seems to have got a rather small end can. Our belief is that the TVS Draken Concept could have provided some design cues for the upcoming motorcycle.
