German automobile giant BMW, on 7th May 2014 announced their plans to launch the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” (German for: 30 years of M5). As the name suggests this is to commemorate 30 years of the BMW M5 by releasing only 300 of these beauties worldwide. The M5 which came into existence in 1986 was the fastest ever sedan at its launch with a top speed of 245 KMPH and a 0 – 100 KMPH time of 6.5 seconds. In what seems to be a fitting tribute to this marvellous piece of engineering, BMW promises that the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” is all set to be the “most Powerful car in the history of the brand”. So lets further discuss how BMW plans to go about in blowing our mind and 30 candles on their cake with the “30 Jahre M5”.
Under the hood:
We start off by looking under the hood to see what makes the BMW M5 “30 jahre M5” the most powerful BMW ever, its powered by a 4.4 litre V8 Engine with MTwinPower Turbo technology giving us,
- An output of 600 BHP (which exceeds the standard model by a drastic 40 BHP).
- Peak Torque of 700 Nm.
- Goes from 0 – 100 Km/h, in an astounding 3.9 seconds.
The ‘competition package’ of the 5th generation BMW M5 was used as a template to further enhance and create the “30 Jahre M5”.
Exteriors:
Keeping with traditions of a BMW anniversary issue having an individual touch to it, the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” looks sharper and meaner than its standard issue sibbling. A big factor in this aspect goes to the use of BMW individual paint shade ‘Frozen Dark Silver Metallic’ , this soft finish accentuates the elegantly muscular form of the BMW M5. The kidney grille surround, gills with “30 Jahre M5” badge on front wings, door handle inserts and the twin exhaust tailpipes, all come in Black which further acts as the finishing touch to a very classy design. The 20-inch bi-coloured alloy wheels makes it an assured head turner.
Interiors:
“Understated elegance and Powerful dynamics”, are what seem to be the design motto when it comes to the interiors. It looks like a typical BMW clutter free interior and with this being an anniversary model the special highlights such as, the driver and front passenger being greeted by “30 Jahre M5” lettering on the front door sill finishers, while a plaque bearing “30 Jahre M5” and inscriptions in reference to the special model’s limited 300-unit global production run is integrated into the Aluminium Trace trim strip on the front passenger side of the cabin and the “30 Jahre M5” logo is also embroidered into the backrests of all four of the high-performance sedan’s seats, reminding you of the exclusivity of the vehicle you own. The black Alcantara/leather combination helps to ensure excellent seat comfort and a refined interior ambience, as does the Alcantara Anthracite trim of the centre console and door panels. The M sports steering wheel is likewise trimmed in Alcantara Anthracite.
In a nutshell:
With so many tweaks and changes not only in the design but also from an engineering point of view, it would be very cruel on our part if we term it as just another anniversary model, because the truth is that the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5” is an evolution of its so called sibbling and is much more than a mere cosmetic change.
It is a near perfect ode to the sedan which came out 1986 , a sedan which was an amalgamation of the best of the BMW 535i and M1. It packs a punch, looks the part and when we throw in the fact that there shall be only 300 of those out there, that exclusivity adds to the desirability of the BMW M5 “30 Jahre M5″.
