BMW India sales are doing good and with the demand rising, BMW is going to ramp up its production capacity. Currently the annual production capacity of BMW Chennai plant is about 3000 units which will be boosted to about 8000 units in year 2011. The need for this expansion is even more when the upcoming SUV from BMW, the BMW X1 will hit Indian roads. It will be the cheapest SUV from BMW in India, thus high demand is expected. This expansion is a part of BMW’s investment of Rs. 180 crores to be spent on India operations to improve its presence in India.
