BMW 5-Series Stuck on Waterlogged Service Road of Hyderabad ORR
As you can see in the tweets above, Mr Uday M Teja was travelling with his pregnant wife in a G30 BMW 5-Series. They planned to visit their doctor. Unfortunately, their car got stuck on the waterlogged service road of the Hyderabad ORR. They had to wait for hours for the towing service and the recovery car could rescue them. Once the car was taken to a service centre, they handed over a quote of Rs 40 lakh for repairs. They explained that the hydrostatic locks and other major components of the car were damaged. In such cases, the engine has to be disassembled completely to dry out the water.
Mr Uday M Teja blamed the authorities for the bad roads. He claims that the waterlogging was caused by 1-foot tall banks and a lack of storm drains. Mr Teja added that the roads were flooded with just a night of rain in Hyderabad and as many as 12 BMW cars and 8 Mercedes-Benz cars got stuck. This hints at the importance of cars with higher ground clearance in Indian cities. It is no surprise that more and more Indian customers are choosing bigger vehicles that can wade through flooded roads.

Luxury Cars Prone to Water Damage
It is to be noted that most luxury cars are not designed to handle such extreme conditions as waterlogged roads. This is also the reason behind massive repair costs. The air intake in luxury cars like the BMW 5-Series is placed very close to the road. As a result, motors of such cars get hydro-locked easily. Since water can easily short the complex electronics in luxury cars, the repair costs are very high. Some companies even offer special discounts for their customers during the monsoon season in India.
