A prototype model of upcoming BMW 2 series was caught on camera disguised under a canvas skin. This series will be the second model to embrace BMW’s new nomenclature method. According to this method even numbers will be used for the models whose body styles will resemble a sports style while odd numbers will be used for other regular models like hatchbacks, estates, crossovers, and SUVs.
Although the camouflage doesn’t reveals much but when carefully observed a few changes are noticeable. It can be easily noticed that the second series model is somewhat larger in size compared to its predecessor but with a smaller booty. It is assumed that both front and rear end will have less changes and this series will mainly differentiate from the former one in terms of performance aspects and internal alterations.
Those uncomfortable with huge headlamps of the generation 1-series will not be disappointed this time as it seems the new version will adorn a much smaller and glossier set of lights. It will also comprise long and slender ducts behind front wheels just following the 4-series concept.
The 2-series might differentiate in terms of exteriors from the 1-series but it seems that the basic framework and engine will be shared by both the models. The rear wheels will receive power from six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic. From the pictures it seems that the car is in its final testing stages. It’s not hard to make out that the 2-series will be powered by a collection of 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine, a choice of four-cylinder 2.0 liter diesels engine and a turbocharged six cylinder 3 liter capacity engine. This combination will be used for the consistent 235i and M series models too.
Year 2014 has been dated for public showcase of the second series while for the fourth series 2013 has been confirmed. The fourth series will be unveiled in the Detroit Auto show in beginning month of 2013. The Bavaria based car maker also plans to unveil its refurbished BMW X1 model in India around February 2013. This new model will carry several modified features like new exterior paint colors, alloy wheels, improved insides, and so forth.
