BMW has launched the 2 Series Gran Coupe in India with its price starting from Rs 39.90 lakh and is available in two variants – Sportline and M Sport. The prices are however incredibly close to the BMW 3-Series.
BMW has launched the brand-new 2 Series Gran Coupe in India today with price starting from Rs 39.30 lakh. The new 2-Series Gran Coupe sits below the 3-Series in India and it marks a new entry-point into BMW’s range of sedans in India. The 2 Series Gran Coupe comes to India in two variants – Sportline and M Sport – with just a sole diesel engine as of now. A petrol engine will be introduced in the lineup at a later stage. Here’s a look at the variant-wise prices of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe, although its only introductory.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Design
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is actually based on the 1 Series hatchback and it is an extension of the 2-Series lineup which also includes a Coupe, Convertible and Active Tourer body styles in the international market. Built on a built on a front-wheel-drive platform, the 2 Series Gran Coupe has a styling that’s typically new-age BMW with a large kidney grille and aggressive LED headlamps. This four-door sedan has a low-slung look with a good balance of aggressive contours and clean lines, and you get a very attractive looking car.
The front and rear bumpers on the car are also very aggressively styled. The dual-tone alloy wheels and dual exhausts further add to the sporty quotient. The side profile is also characterized by a beautifully sloping roofline that ends in fastback like rear section. The pillar-less doors look extremely attractive, and it must be mentioned that no other car in this price point has this feature. The well sculped boot lied with slim LED tail lamps round off the look at the rear.

On the inside, the dashboard layout is pretty familiar with most modern BMWs and in fact, most of it has been carried over from the 3-series sedan. The ergonomics are spot on and BMW’s i-drive system controlled by a swivel wheel on the center console remains one of the best in the business. The center console also gets the typical BMW gear lever but other elements inside the cabin are quite familiar. This might be an entry-level BMW but quality of materials and fit and finish are still very high.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Engine Options
BMW has launched this new entry-level sedan with just a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine as of now. This engine produces 190hp and 400Nm of torque and it comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds and that pretty brisk performance. However, contrary to other BMW sedan which have a longitudinal engine layout and rear-wheel drive, the 2 Series Gran Coupe gets a transverse engine layout and a front-wheel drive setup. BMW will also launch this car with 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine at a later stage. The 2.0L turbo-petrol engine produces 192hp and 280Nm of torque.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Variants
As for the two trims on offer, there are some differentiation between them in terms of styling and equipment on offer. The Sportline variant will come with 17-inch alloy wheels, ‘Illuminated Berlin’ interior trim with the option of five paint shades for the exterior. The M Sport variant meanwhile gets all the usual M-specific goodness that we have seen on other BMW models. That includes larger 18-inch alloy wheels with the choice of six exterior color options. It also brings in a M Sport body kit with sportier front and rear bumpers, side aprons, ‘M’ badges on the front fenders, gloss black trim around the windows and some chrome embellishment on the front grille. On the inside, the M Sport variant additionally gets M Sport steering wheel and sporty aluminum pedals.

BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Rivals
Quite surprisingly, BMW has priced the 2 Series Gran Coupe extremely close to the 3-series which starts from Rs 41.70 and goes up to Rs 48.50 lakh. The prices also overlaps the price of the BMW X1 which ranges from Rs 35.90 to Rs 42.90 lakh. Yes, it could have been priced a little lower but the petrol engine coming later is expected to bring down the entry-price by a small margin. As for its rivals, it will be pitted directly against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine and the updated Audi A3 sedan.
