India’s third largest luxury carmaker by sales, BMW has made all the arrangements to launch its new BMW 1 series in the country on 3rd of September. As per the news, the car has already been delivered to the dealers across the country. Potential buyers may check out the models as well as real cars at many showrooms.The car comes both with petrol as well as diesel engine. For the petrol option, the 1.6 liter turbocharged engine can generate up to 136 BHP of peak power and 220 Nm torque. It has 8 speed automatic transmissions to give you an ultimate thrilling driving experience. The fuel efficiency of the petrol engine is 16.28 KMPL (rated by ARAI).
On the other hand, the diesel model of BMW 1 Series has got a 2.0-liter motor which has already been in the country through BMW’s 3 Series and the base 5 Series variant. In the 1 Series, this engine will bring out a maximum output of 143 BHP and a highest torque of 320 Nm, along with an identical 8-speed gearbox which comes in the petrol variant. It provides a better fuel economy of 20.58 KMPL as compared to its petrol counterpart.
Other features of the series include electric driver seat with memory function, glass roof, auto start-stop function, 6.5-inch iDrive display, 7-speaker 205W output sound system, and rear parking sensors. Hence, it is going to be a perfect mix of entertainment and high class driving. It will be packed and rolled out from company’s Chennai plant. As per information leaked by online sources, BMW 1-Series price tag in India will start at Rs.22.90 lakhs.
BMW has recently lost its leadership position in the Indian luxury car market to Mercedes and Audi and the company is looking very desperate to get it back. In such times, a lot of hopes will stand on how the new series creates buzz in the market. BMW is more like an injured lion for the time being rather than anything else and that is not a good thing for its German compatriots.
