As you can see in the above YouTube video (shared by NDTV), the class 12 board exams seemed in disarray as there was no power in the examination center. Originally, the examination was supposed to start at 1.45 pm. However, due to mismanagement at the local level, the exam started only at 4.30 pm. By this time, it was too dark for the students to see properly without any light source. Schools usually have arrangements for day classes and the authorities had provisioned for this situation. Eventually, the students were made to sit in the open and officials used Maruti Ertiga headlights to illuminate the corridors filled with kids.
The Bihar state board’s intermediate (class 12) examination started on 1 February. The above-mentioned incident took place in Motihari town of Bihar. While the Maharaja Harendra Kishore college has an electricity connection, it clearly did not work. The delay in the starting time has been attributed to improper seating arrangements and subsequent protests by parents and students. While a generator was eventually used, there were no lighting arrangements in school corridors. Also, the Maruti Ertiga could only help illuminate a part of the corridors where the students were seated.

Sanjay Kumar (District education officer, East Champaran) blamed the embarrassing event on the local mismanagement. The center superintendent has been divested of his charge. The suspension of seven teachers has been recommended. Additionally, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, education minister, Bihar has also sought a report on the incident. This incident highlights the huge neglect of education infrastructure and serious management. The carelessness is lay with the student’s future. However, it is heartening to see car headlights coming to help those in need.
