After dominating the electric scooter segment since its inception, the Indian EV startup is now gearing up to take on the electric motorcycle category.
An X post depicts Bhavish Aggarwal test riding the upcoming Ola electric bike. The Ola CEO is quite active on the micro-blogging website. He keeps sharing the latest happenings from the Ola R&D and manufacturing facilities. He keeps the internet users updated with the latest information about Ola’s existing, as well as upcoming products. Needless to say, this is also a potent method to create a lot of buzz around Ola electric vehicles. We have seen the kind of hype there was online during the launch of the Ola S1 electric scooter. I reckon the Ola CEO wishes to replicate that interest ahead of the unveiling of the Ola electric bike too.
Bhavish Aggarwal Test Rides Ola Electric Bike
This post comes from the official X handle of Bhavish Aggarwal. The caption of this post read, “Took a test ride. And then our marketing team did this to such a nice pic!” He is referring to the fact that the visuals of the actual bike have been pixelated out to keep the identity a secret. Various reports online suggest that we will be able to witness the electric motorcycle in the flesh on August 15. Until now, we have seen a couple of teasers and spy images. Also, Ola had announced its product lineup with the electric bikes. There will be M1 Cyber Racer, M1 Cruiser, M1 Adventure and Diamond Head, based on the trademark applications.
While we can’t deduce much from the ‘censored’ image, the previous spottings and teaser videos reveal a few key details. For instance, it will get an LED headlamp cluster much like the Ola S1 barring a few tweaks to give it individuality. Apart from that, the electric bike will get a conventional right-side-up telescopic fork. The EV will have a drive chain and the motor could be mounted at the centre. The side section consists of rugged and sophisticated panels. Overall, the design will be minimalistic and future-ready. More details will emerge on August 15.
Our View
Ola is the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India. Its shares become available for trade from 10 AM today. The IPO has been listed in the ‘B’ group of securities. After conquering the electric scooter space, the Bangalore-based EV startup is moving towards launching a series of electric motorcycles. The aim is clearly to become a prominent player in the market despite stiff resistance from the legacy two-wheeler manufacturers. We shall have to wait to see how well the customers transition to electric motorcycles in times to come.
