As a result, more and more automobile brands are working on new electric cars and bikes. Currently, Tata Motors has over 85% market share in the EV segment. BYD Seal EV
The electric sedan was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. Currently, there is no confirmation about its price or launch date. However, the company is expected to launch the BYD Seal EV in the fourth quarter of 2023. It is said to come with a price tag of around Rs 70 lakh. The premium EV is marketed as Tesla Model 3 rival EV rival. It is based on the brand’s e-platform 3.0. The BYD Seal EV comes with two battery pack options. The 61.4kWh battery pack offers a range of 550km. On the other hand, the 82.5kWh battery pack will provide up to 700km range.
Mahindra XUVe8
In 2022, Mahindra showcased five electric SUV concepts based on the INGLO Born electric platform. The plan was to launch the new vehicles under the XUV and BE brands. Now, the company is ready to offer first product under the XUV electric brand. The Mahindra XUVe8 will be launched on December 2024. It will come with up to an 80kWh battery pack. The electric SUV is likely to offer 230bhp – 350bhp of power. It will come with the option of an AWD (all-wheel drive) system.

MG Comet EV
We are likely to see this EV before all others. MG Motor India is bringing the Comet EV to India in April 2023. It will come with a 17.3kWh battery pack (offering a claimed range of 200kms) on the base variant. The top-end variant will come with a 26.7kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of around 300kms on a single charge. With just 2.9 meters in length, the 2-door electric vehicle will be the country’s smallest car (even smaller than the Tata Nano). The MG Comet EV is expected to be priced at Rs 10 lakh. It will compete with the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.
Tata Punch EV
Tata Motors is working hard to retain its control over the EV market in India. It plans to launch multiple electric cars in the coming months. This includes the new Tata Punch EV which is likely to be launched by the end of this year. It is expected to come in two battery pack options – a 26kWh (seen on the Tiago EV) and a 30.2kWh (seen on the Nexon EV). The mini SUV will be based on the GEN 2 (SIGMA) platform (a modified version of the ALFA architecture) that will be optimized for electrification. It will have a flat floor to house a large battery pack.

Tata Curvv Mid-Sized SUV
Tata Motors also plans to launch the Curvv SUV Coupe in the Indian market. It plans to bring the production version with electric and ICE powertrains in 2024. The mid-sized SUV is said to sport a large battery pack with an estimated range of over 400ms. It will be based on the GEN 2 platform (a heavily modified Tata’s ALFA platform). The Tata Curvv EV will compete with the likes of the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona EV, and the Mahindra XUV400. As of now, there is no confirmation about the official price tag or launch date.
