Bajaj is going to launch a new electric scooter, titled ‘Chetak Chic’. The e-scooter will be launched on 16th October, but only in Pune and Bangalore initially.
Bajaj Auto’s Urbanite is going to enter the electric two-wheeler segment in India on 16th October. The first offering will be an electric scooter, which has been named as ‘Chetak Chic’, reminding us of the original Chetak.
The electric Bajaj Chetak will be offered as a premium model, priced near to Rs 1 Lakh. Bajaj will launch the scooter in a systematic phase, with the first ones coming up in Bangalore and Pune. After these cities, it will be introduced in other metro cities.
Given that most of the electric vehicles are found in these two cities, Bajaj has decided to play it safe with its first offering. Most of the EV makers prefer Bangalore, Hyderabad or Pune for starting their operations.

In Bangalore, there are a lot of public charging stations put up by different companies, a lot of them including Ather energy. Also, in a city like Bangalore or Pune, the acceptance and demand for EVs are increasing by the day.
Reports suggest that Bajaj will set up its own public charging stations across both the cities. In Pune, Bajaj has a good reach because of its manufacturing plant based on the outskirts. Pune also has a growing market for two-wheelers as well as electric mobility.
As of now, no major details regarding the electric Bajaj Chetak are known. Going by the spy shots, it shows a minor resemblance to the original Chetak, especially from the side. Features onboard will include LED headlamps, alloy wheels, disc brakes and a retro-modern styling like that of a Vespa.

Right now, the market of electric two-wheelers is expanding as we have some major players in the fields as well as some startups. Hero Electric and now Bajaj will be the major players in the EV segment. On the other hand, we have Ather, Okinawa and Revolt as some start-ups that are gaining a lot of popularity.
So generally, the electric Bajaj Chetak will go against the likes of Okinawa i-Praise and Ather 450 electric scooter. But it will also compete with the Revolt RV300 and RV400, an electric motorcycle priced near a Lakh.
