Bajaj has been feeling the heat of increased competition in the Indian market. It lost the second spot, in terms of sales, to Honda in the last financial year. Honda has been very aggressive, launching the Dream Neo last month and updating its scooters with new fuel saving engine tech. Bajaj on the hand has been quiet mute after launching the Pulsar 200NS in June last year. It also doesn’t have scooter offerings in its portfolio and depends heavily on its bikes.
No need to fret though Bajaj fans, according to an interview Rajiv Bajaj had with CNBC-TV18, the company will be aggressively increase its market presence in India and abroad. How will they do that? Bajaj will launch six new bikes by March 2014.
There will be two new Pulsar models laucnhed, one with a bigger engine than the 200 NS and the other which will slot below it. We already know that the larger Pulsar will be a 375 cc bike, and looking at the spy shots it looks as though it will be ready for a launch soon. The other, smaller bike will replace the current generation of 150cc and 180cc Pulsars. Expect one of the launches to happen around the festive season in September.
It seems that Bajaj already has six Discover variants ready for launch, to plug the gap it left in the 100cc-150cc segment. Though not all six of them would be launched before 2014, market reaction and demand will decide which models will see the day of light. Whatever may be the case, it is confirmed that there will be at least four Discover variants in the market by then. Looking forward to the bikes? We certainly are!
