Bajaj Urbanite brand will offer electric scooters and bikes as well. Reports say that the first model from the brand will launch in the next 6-9 months.
Last month, we reported that Bajaj Auto will launch its first electric vehicle soon under the Urbanite brand name. The first one is expected to be an electric scooter.
At the recent event of the brand, Rajeev Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto, confirmed that their first electric brand under Bajaj Urbanite will launch soon. Now, Moneycontrol reports that the launch timeline is in the next 6-9 months.
Further, Rakesh Sharma, Director, has confirmed that Bajaj Urbanite will be presented in a small way and then sort of build up.

However, the company has reassured that Bajaj Urbanite brand will see a lot of battery-powered products launching. Currently, it is India’s third largest electric two-wheeler maker.
Another set of reports say that Bajaj could launch an electric bike in India first. It will be performance oriented instead of mass-market models. Bajaj’s E-Bike will go against Tork T6X electric bike.
Bajaj wants to model the Urbanite brand as Tesla. It wants to do a top to down approach for scooters as well as bikes. So, even if it plans to launch an electric scooter, expect it to be placed on the premium end.

There are rumours that Bajaj Urbanite might relaunch the iconic Chetak too. The geared-scooter will take its form in an electric scooter. Probably, a petrol powered variant of the same is also expected.
Other main-stream two-wheeler brands are also working towards the development of electric scooters. The list includes TVS, Hero and Suzuki.
At the premium end of electric scooter space, we have models from Ather and Okinawa. Both the startups have their scooters priced above Rs 1 Lakh.

Mass-produced electric scooters include some from Avan Motors, Hero Electric and a couple of Okinawa scooters as well. The range starts from as low as Rs 35,000.
