Bajaj Twinner trademark has been filed, which is a clear hint of an upcoming twin-cylinder motorcycle that we earlier expected to be launched in the highly famous Pulsar range
Haven’t we all waited pretty desperately for a proper, twin-cylinder sportsbike from Bajaj? Well, TVS certainly pushed the envelope with the Apache RR310 but so far, Bajaj has restricted the Pulsar to the sub-250cc category. It did test waters in a higher segment with the Dominar, which carries a 373cc single-cylinder powerplant but we’re yet to see Bajaj prepping its twin-cylinder motorcycle. This, my friends, can’t be said anymore as the company has just filed a trademark application for the Bajaj Twinner moniker, thereby clearly hinting at something pretty serious brewing up.
Bajaj Auto Ltd has already made a presence in the premium motorcycle market through its KTM offerings and even certain Kawasaki models in the past but we’ve actually been waiting for a proper, big-displacement model in the Pulsar series. However, it looks like the company would rather not use the renowned Pulsar brand to market its first twin-cylinder motorcycle. Well, we aren’t complaining as this model actually makes it to the market and isn’t forgotten about like the tasty SS400 concept we say many years ago.
Also, it gets important to mention here that the leaked trademark filing application notwithstanding, we haven’t really heard much about this motorcycle from anywhere else. That said, Bajaj earlier partnered with Triumph to come up with an affordable middleweight motorcycle for emerging markets like that of India. Putting two and two together, it gets pretty easy to make out that the Twinner could be actually the 500cc model that will be co-developed by the two motorcycle manufacturers.
Not just this, Bajaj has been working on a 490cc twin-cylinder motor in association with KTM. This motor will be powering the 490 Duke, 490 Enduro and 490 Adventure from the Austrian manufacturer. Well, even if the Twinner won’t be a product of Bajaj-Triumph association, the new range of Katooms could spin a Bajaj-branded model off that would be sold under the Twinner moniker. We’re expecting the new motorcycle to be unveiled some time next year.
