The Bajaj Twinner could bring quite a revolution to the Indian motorcycle market just like the Pulsar did over two decades ago
First launched in 2001, the Bajaj Pulsar series of motorcycles is easily among the most successful brand names in the Indian motorcycle market. It’s also responsible for infusing some oomph in the rather lacklustre market back then by bringing a fun-to-ride product to the masses. At present, the Pulsar range includes models from 125cc to 250cc and these motorcycles continue to impress with the amalgamation of performance, features and affordability that they offer. However, recently, Bajaj Auto Ltd filed trademark for ‘Twinner’ moniker, thereby hinting at an upcoming twin-cylinder model that could be the flagship model in the Indian motorcycle manufacturer’s portfolio. The digital illustrations from abin_designs_511 we have below could be a glimpse at the aesthetics of the first proper ‘big bike’ from the Pune-based bike-maker.

Frankly, we’ve waited pretty long enough for a proper, twin-cylinder sportsbike from an Indian manufacturer. True, TVS did take things to a new level with the Apache RR310 but so far, we’re yet to get a sub-500cc twin-cylinder Indian sportsbike. In fact, Bajaj did launch the Dominar a few years ago for those who crave for a punchier performer than any of the Pulsars. But the Dominar is a streetnaked that runs on a de-tuned version of the KTM Duke 390’s single-potter and what that means is that we’re yet to see a multi-cylinder motorcycle from a homegrown manufacturer. This is exactly where the Bajaj Twinner can make a difference!
It’s noteworthy that the leaked trademark application notwithstanding, we haven’t actually heard much about the Bajaj Twinner. So far, no test mules have been spied and nor has there been any sort of hint in the statements made by the honchos over at BAL. But Bajaj has already partnered with Triumph to develop a well-priced middleweight motorcycle for emerging markets like that of ours. So, it’s pretty easy to add two and two and the Twinner could be actually the 500cc motorcycle from the Bajaj-Triumph collaboration.

Bajaj is even said to be working on a twin-cylinder 490cc motor in association with KTM. The engine will be seen powering the 490 Duke, 490 Enduro and 490 Adventure. So, in case the Twinner isn’t the first product of the Bajaj-Triumph tie-up, it could become a Bajaj flagship based on the upcoming Katoom. The Bajaj Twinner could be unveiled early next year.
