Bajaj is planning to launch an off-roader based on the KTM 390 Adventure. Could it be a Dominar turned into an ADV?
Bajaj had earlier tried its luck in adventure motorcycle department with the AS200 and AS160. Now, it is planning to make a move again, but with a much bigger engine.
Thrustzone reports that the upcoming off-roader from Chakan-based manufacturer will be inspired by KTM 390 Adventure. However, we expect the 373cc engine from Dominar to be used here.
Earlier reports say that it will be a rebadged version of the KTM 390 Adventure. The upcoming KTM ADV is scheduled to make an entry in 2019 itself. It has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads.

We expect the Bajaj ADV to make its debut by 2020. Before starting the full scale operation of the ADV, the company might also test the response that it gets from the updated Dominar.
The ADV will get higher travel at the front and rear suspension with the new USD Forks at the front. The height might be further increased along with a better ground clearance.
In terms of design, it will carry a tall front fairing with a tall windshield. The rendering shows that it gets a small beak as well. Further, a luggage rack at the back will be added as well.

With this, we expect the Bajaj ADV to borrow the engine from the 390 Adventure. The KTM ADV will use a retuned version of the Duke 390’s engine, with better low-end torque distribution.
The 373cc liquid-cooled DOHC mill produces 43 BHP and 37 Nm of peak torque, being mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Just like the updated Dominar, the power figures of the ADV will be bit lesser than that of the 390 Adventure.
Meanwhile, Bajaj has tied up with Autologue Designs to manufacture official accessories for the 2019 Dominar. The customers will be able to buy these add-ons for Bajaj dealerships and authorized service centers.

The ideal competitor of the Dominar ADV will be Royal Enfield Himalayan. Some premium over the regular Dominar will take the prices up to Rs 2 Lakhs. In the same range, the Himalayan is available. Also, their engine capacities are somewhat similar.
