Bajaj has finally launched the Dominar 250 in India. It looks identical to the Dominar 400, but gets some minor mechanical changes. Just like the bigger Dominar, even the new one is based on a KTM motorcycle, the Duke 250.
The bookings for Dominar 250 are already ongoing across the country. The bikes have started reaching dealerships and in a week or two, the deliveries will also commence. Here we put it against the likes of BS6 KTM Duke 250.

Dominar 250 comes at a price of Rs 1.60 Lakhs, nearly Rs 30,000 cheaper than the Dominar 400. In comparison, the Duke 250 is priced at Rs 1.98 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom). The Duke is even costlier than the bigger Dominar.

Since the Dominar is based on the Duke 250, both use the same 248cc fuel-injected liquid-cooled engine. However, the engine on Dominar produces 27 PS and 23.5 Nm of peak torque in comparison to 30 PS and 24 Nm produced by Duke. The tuning of the engine has been softened a bit for the Dominar, while that for Duke is all guns and glory.

Both have the same fuel tank capacity of 13.5 Litres, however, Dominar offers slightly better mileage. The official mileage figures of Dominar are yet to be revealed, but we are expecting it to offer around 33 kmpl. In comparison, the Duke offers 29 kmpl.
Talking about the acceleration, Duke is a clear winner over here. It is two seconds faster than the Dominar, which clocks 0-100 is 10.5 seconds. Also, if we compare the top speed, Dominar reaches up to 132 km/hr max whereas Duke goes up to 148 km/hr.

At the front, Dominar 250 uses thinner 37mm USD telescopic forks. Its elder sibling uses 43mm USD forks which have been taken out for cost-cutting. At the back, it gets the same monoshock suspension. As for the Duke 250, it uses WP sourced 43mm USD forks at the front and a WP sourced monoshock at the back. Same setup but the Duke is more premium.

Dominar uses relatively smaller (than Dominar 400) 300mm front disc brake and 230mm rear disc brake. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard. Further, it uses slimmer 100/80-17 section front tyres and 130/70-17 section rear tyres. No radial tyres, unfortunately.
Duke 250 again bags the department with bigger 320mm front disc and 240mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS as standard. For a better racing experience, you get the SuperMoto mode along with it. On this mode, the traction control and ABS are disabled. Further, it gets 17-inch radial tires at both the ends. Also, the tyres are fatter than Dominar.

There are some huge differences seen here. Dominar is longer, wider and even taller than the Duke. A lot bigger. Its wheelbase is also nearly 350mm more than the Duke. However, Duke gets more ground clearance of 185mm, which is somewhat important and better. The seat height of Dominar is comparatively lower at 800mm. So, shorter people can easily fit on the Dominar. Moving on to the weight, Dominar is 33 kilograms heavier than Duke 250. All these figures suggest that Duke comes out to be sportier and more agile to ride.
