The Auto Expo 2022 has been postponed indefinitely according to the official statement of the SIAM Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). The decision has come amidst the widespread destruction caused by the pandemic in India. Originally scheduled to take place in February 2022, the Covid situation has caused the event to get postponed. It is unclear when exactly will we be able to find ourselves witnessing the Auto Expo as no specific date has been mentioned yet. This is not great news for all the automobile enthusiasts in India. The Auto Expo sets the tone for the rest of the years and gets the customers directly in contact with the company. Carmakers test their new product designs and potential according to the attraction their concept models and technologies receive at the Auto Expo.

In a way, the cars that we see on the roads were all once a part of some Auto Expo. It shapes our automobile industry completely. Some of the noticeable products in the last year’s Auto Expo were the Jimny, Thar, Gurkha, Taigu, Kushaq, Kiger and many more. Now compare these concept cars with the models on sale and see how many new cars we’ve had just by one Auto Expo. Additionally, Mahindra also showcased its in-house developed Stallion range of engines. These engines are turbocharged and use direct injection technology. The XUV300 will get the smallest engine from that family soon. The upcoming XUV700 will get the most powerful engine in the segment which is also the top-of-the-line engine by Mahindra. Hence, the importance of the Auto Expo can’t be highlighted enough.

Auto Expo 2022 Postponed
With the country already reeling under the effects of Covid, the SIAM released a press statement stating that customer safety is the topmost priority. No compromises will be made with the health standards because of the event. With the apprehension of the third wave, the risk of organizing the event is too much. The Auto Expo is the festival of automobile enthusiasts and the influx of people is always huge. Keeping similar risks in mind, plenty of automakers had opted out of the event last time around as well. Some international Auto Expos were cancelled entirely as well. So, it is not like this is something unprecedented.

The decision of whether to consider organizing the event or not will be taken later this year. Needless to say, the decision will be solely based on the prevailing situations at the time. The duration of the third wave will decide if we will be able to visit our favourite place or not.
