Mahindra has launched the Scorpio N in Australia and the first driving impressions of the reviewers are out.
An Australian reviews and is left totally impressed by the driving mannerism of the Mahindra Scorpio N. The SUV has experienced unprecedented success in its home market (India). Now, the Indian SUV giant aims to repeat that Down Under. The Scorpio N is a 6-seater off-roading SUV that rivals the giants of the industry including the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport at almost half the former’s prices. In fact, the drive-away price of the top spec Z8L trim is just $44,990. Let us see what the reviewer thinks of the Scorpio N.

He likes the overall exterior design of the Scorpio N with chrome-plated slats on the front grille, the upright stance, 18-inch stylish alloy wheels, metallic sidesteps for easier ingress and egress, the use of a chrome belt underneath the window frame, practical roof rails and an upright rear section with vertically oriented LED tail lamps. All in all, the SUV oozes an imposing road presence that rivals some of the iconic SUVs available in the market.

Interior and Features
The cabin of the Mahindra Scorpio N is quite plush with a slew of modern tech and connectivity features. This includes things like a chunky steering wheel with controls, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a large digital infotainment display with Android Auto, a rotary drive mode selector with a 4×4 button, wireless charging, soft-touch materials on the dashboard, physical buttons for automatic HVAC, vertical AC vents, Electric sunroof, two USB ports, Sony sound system, spacious second-row captain seating and a decent 3rd-row space as well.

Specs
The Mahindra Scorpio N comes powered by a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 129 kW (173 hp) and 400 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels via Mahindra’s 4XPLOR drivetrain. There is a low-range transfer case for hardcore off-roading capabilities. You also get various drive modes for all sorts of terrains like Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut and Sand. One could also choose between 4H and 4L depending on the road conditions.

Drive Impressions
The reviewer is thoroughly impressed by the way the SUV drives and handles. The operation is smooth and the drive feels like what you would find on monocoque construction cars. Also, the automatic transmission is quite responsive and makes use of the power quite intelligently without letting the vehicle feel underpowered at any point in time. He also performs a launch and an acceleration test. After the driving test, he highlights that he did not expect such a thrilling performance from a ladder-frame SUV. The only concern he had is the lack of active safety features which Mahindra promises to offer on the facelift model in the future.
