The new Audi RS6 Avant gets bold new styling, much premium interiors with lots of technology and a 4.0L, V8 engine with 600PS of power at its heart.
The Audi RS6 Avant has been an icon for enthusiasts. It has even boasted of a V10 engine under its hood at some point in its lifetime. It has the practicality of an estate, and is still faster than your regular sportscar. Now, Audi has unveiled the fourth-generation RS6 Avant, ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It packs in more power at its heart and has looks to make you weak on your knees.
Starting with the design, the Audi RS6 Avant starts with the design of the A6 and then has been put on steriods. The RS6 Avant gets slimmer headlights from the A7 and also gets an optional Matrix LED headlamp setup. The face is dominated by the large three-dimensional honeycomb grille and the bonnet gets some new character lines. The bumpers come with massive triangular side air intakes which has been inspired from the current-gen R8.
The side profile remains largely the same with some strong shoulder lines and muscular side skirts. It also gets 21-inch aluminium wheels with a 10-spoke star design or an optional RS-specific 22-inch 5-V-spoke trapezoid design that’s offered with the optional Vorsprung specification. At the rear, the tailgate and the taillamps come from the A6 but it gets large dual exhaust tips, black diffuser and a silver trim around it which makes it look very cool indeed.
On the inside, the Audi RS6 Avant adopts Audi’s latest interior design language which is dominated by the two large screens on the dashboard with minimal buttons on the center console. It comes absolutely loaded with features which includes the latest version of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit all-digital instrument cluster. There are RS specific additions which include a G-force meter, temperature sensors for various components as well as torque, power and boost pressure readouts.
It also gets six different driving modes – Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency, and configurable RS modes – RS1 and RS2 – the last two located on the steering wheel. The driving modes alter the throttle response, steering input, and suspension stiffness. As for safety features, the RS6 Avant gets Adaptive Driving Assistant and ESC with a lenient Sport mode.

But let’s talk about what under the hood. The new Audi RS6 Avant is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 TFSI petrol engine which produces 600PS of power and a massive 800Nm of peak torque. It also comes with mild-hybrid technology and can sprint from 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The engine is mated to a 8-speed Tiptronic transmission with quattro all-wheel-drive. The engine also features cylinder on demand (COD) system which essentially shuts off half of the cylinders when the car is at low to intermediate speeds or in higher gears with lower revs in order to aid fuel efficiency.

For suspension duties, the RS6 Avant gets adaptive air suspension as standard which reduces the ride height by 10mm at speeds above 120kmph. There’s also an optional RS Sports Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC). This suspension setup gets new steel springs and three-stage adjustable dampers for better body control around corners. The new Audi RS 6 Avant is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2020. There’s has been word on it coming to India yet but considering that we got the previous-gen of the RS6 Avant, this too should make it to our shores.
