Audi India has been able to boost its sales with the new offerings and good presence in India. Audi India sold 510 cars in the month of August 2011 compared to 250 cars in the month of August 2011 which is a strong 104% growth YoY. The company sold 3655 cars, a growth of 95 percent over the same period last year (Jan – Aug 2010: 1876 cars).
Audi has embarked on an expansion strategy in India. The brand is focused at strengthening its national footprint to 25 dealerships by the end of 2012 and further enhancing its product portfolio in 2012 with e.g. the Q3 which is currently being introduced in Europe. In addition, Audi India and its dealer partners aim to hire at least 600 employees by the end of 2012. Furthermore, together with Volkswagen Group India, Audi India is strengthening its commitment of developing young talents through 3 regional technical education centers, where the first center was recently opened in Chandigarh. For university students and young professionals, Audi is partnering with the future of change initiative and is sponsoring 2 contests within India Future of Change, one being a Business strategy contest and another being an Automobile design contest.
This year the company opened showrooms in Chennai, Delhi and Ludhiana, with Surat to follow soon. Further developments planned in Coimbatore, Delhi West, Indore, Lucknow, Nagpur and Mumbai South. The year 2011 saw the launch of a slew of class-defining models from Audi in India beginning with its flagship Audi A8 L, followed by the super sports cars, Audi R8 V10 and Audi R8 Spyder, the design marvel, Audi A7 Sportback, the high performance, Audi RS5 Coupe. Audi continues to be the market leader in the luxury SUV segment in India with its Q5 and Q7 and in the super sports car segment with its R8.
