The Audi A4 facelift features some cosmetic changes on the exterior and the interior but the most significant change is under the hood with the A4 getting hybrid engine options for the first time.
The Audi A4 is one of Audi’s most selling models. Every 1 Audi in 5 Audi’s sold globally is an A4 and Audi gave the A4 a facelift just last year. To keep it relevant with the competition from the new-gen BMW 3 series, the facelifted Jaguar XE and even the Mercedes E-class, Audi has given the A4 yet another mid-life facelift and this time around, there are quite some extensive changes than is usual for a facelift.
Let’s start with the design first. The Audi A4 facelift gets a new wider and flatter grille and the bumpers too have been slightly redesigned. There are new detailings in the front headlamps to keep in line with Audi’s latest design language. The side profile is more sharper, has more sculpted shoulder and more clearly defined lines than before. At the rear, the tail lamps get the same treatment as the headlamps with a mildly tweaked bumper.
The other models in the A4 range which includes the S4 and Allroad quattro variants have their own bespoke grille designs to differentiate the models.
On the inside, there hasn’t been any major changes except that the infotainment screen has grown larger at 10.1 inch. Its a touchscreen system this time around and Audi has dumped the scroll wheel on the center console and replaced it with cupholders. A full 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and a heads-up display can also be had as an option.
However, the biggest change has been under the hood. All the TFSI petrol engines will be assisted by a 12V mild-hybrid system in the new Audi A4 facelift. There will be three 2.0L, TFSI petrol engines with the 12V mild hybrid system with power ranging from 150hp to 244hp. Also, there will be two diesel engines – a 2.0L, 191hp diesel and a 3.0L, 244hp diesel engine. A 2.0L, TDI with the 12V mild-hybrid system will also follow after the launch.

The S4 however will no longer come a petrol V6, sorry enthusiasts! Instead it will get a 3.0L, TDI diesel engine mated to a 48V integrated starter/motor with a total output of 347hp and 700Nm of torque. The numbers sure have improved though. The engine will come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, sports suspension and all-wheel drive standard. It will also get a sport differential and suspension with damper control available as options.
The entry level 35 TFI and 40 TDI will get manual gearboxes where as higher models will get 7-speed or 8-speed gearboxes. Also, entry level cars will be front-wheel drive while higher models will have the Quattro four-wheel drive system.
