Audi has recently announced the cut-price version of its SUV, the Audi Q3 S and the company is all set to launch its least-price sedan, the Audi A3 in India. The car has caught on test on a number of occasions and today we have the completely undisguised spy shots of the car. The A3 which has been caught testing has halogen bulbs up front in the head light cluster indicating towards the fact that the A3 will get a stripped down entry level variant like the Q3-S. The car has been caught testing on the Eastern Express Highway and it comes devoid of signature Audi daytime running LEDs. This comes across as a move to keep a tab on the costs.
Audi seems to be working on Audi A3 India launch with three engine options. It will get 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol engines and joining them will be a 2.0-litre 150 BHP diesel motor. The departure of Audi’s iconic daytime running LED headlamps and LED tail light is a proof of the fact that Audi will be pricing the car pretty aggressively. The company is aiming to achieve a sub Rs 25 lakh price tag with the A3 sedan and departure of some features will surely help it achieve it.
The engines will come mated to a 7 speed S tronic automatic transmission on the higher end variants whereas the entry level variants will get a 6 speed manual transmission. There are a lot of people out there who love the manual transmission any day over an automatic one and the A3 sedan will bring those people a smile on their faces. The A3 sedan is 4460mm in length, 1796mm in terms of width and 1416mm in height with the wheelbase being 2,400 mm.
With these specifications, it is 170 mm shorter , 19 mm wider and 19 mm lower than its nearest competitor, the Mercedes CLA sedan. It is also shorter in terms of wheelbase by 63mm. Mercedes is gearing up to launch the Mercedes CLA early next year in India and Audi is gearing up to launch the A3. It is going to quite the battle between the German compatriots but the winner amidst this will be the aspiring India who’d be able to get a luxury sedan at an unheard price.
