The much anticipated Ather 340 and 450 Electric scooters have launched, after making us wait for a long time. Currently, both the scooters will be based only in Bengaluru because the charging stations are made there only till now. The electric scooter is available starting from Rs 1.09 Lakhs (on-road price).
The much-awaited electric scooters, Ather 340 and 450 are launched on 5th June. Both the scooters are available in Bengaluru only, because of limited charging stations. The 350 is priced at Rs 1,09,750 and the 450 is priced at Rs 1,24,750 (on-road price). Ather gets a touch-screen speedometer which consists of smartphone connectivity, parking assist, navigation assist, vehicle charging point tracker, push navigation and more. It looks like it has been taken out of some futuristic movie with all those hovercrafts and all. It looks very simple, yet stylish. The scooter gets Central Braking system, LED lights and under seat storage. Currently, it is one of a kind in India and will compete with all the scooters.

The E-scooter comes in ‘340’ and ‘450’ variants. The 340 is priced at Rs 1.09 Lakhs and the 450 is priced at Rs 1.24 Lakhs. This is inclusive of subsidy @ Rs. 22,000, GST, road tax, smart card fee, registration card, and insurance. For the first set of consumers, Ather Energy is offering the first year of the subscription plan for free. The company will also provide a home charging Point with the Ather 450 and a charging cable with the Ather 340. The price of these products and their installation will be waived off for these consumers.
Ather 340 And Ather 450 – Design
The E-scooter looks like it has been taken from some futuristic movie. It comes with minimalistic design elements but still looks classy. In the front, it gets the LED headlights above the front fender. The turn indicators come on either side of the handlebars. It comes with a dual-tone white and black treatment. In the front, it gets alloy wheels with disc brakes. The speedometer gets a fully digital and touchscreen treatment which gets GPS navigation, push alert notifications, riding range and more. Mainly, it gets over-the-air updates, so that the scooter gets updates regularly. At the rear, it gets the LED tail lights with reverse assist.

The Ather 340 runs on a 1.92 kWh lithium-ion battery that produces around 6 BHP of power and 20 Nm of torque. It gives a top speed of 70 KMPH and accelerates 0-40 KMPH in 5.1 seconds.
The Ather 450 runs on a 2.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that produces around 7.5 BHP worth of power and 20.5 Nm worth of torque. It gives a top speed of 80 KMPH and accelerates 0-40 KMPH in 3.9 seconds.

With the eco-mode on, the 340 will run up to 60 Kms on a single charge. With its eco-mode off, it will run up to 50 Kms. The ARAI tested range of the scooter is 86 kms.

Ather 340 And Ather 450 – Charging
The scooter will come with fast chargers, which can charge the scooter up to 80% within 2 hours and 40 mins hour. It can charge 0-100 % in 4 hours and 18 minutes. The fast-charging rate of the scooter is 1 Km/minute. However, the fast public chargers claim to charge both the scooters up to 80% in 50 mins. For both the scooters, home chargers are also available. Currently, it is available only in the production place, Bengaluru. There are around 30 charging stations in Bengaluru, which will double in the coming year.

Ather 340 And Ather 450 – Subscription Plan
The Ather One plan entitles customers to free public and home charging, periodic maintenance inclusive of consumables, breakdown assistance and unlimited data services for the dashboard at only Rs. 700 + GST per month, which is way lower than the sustenance cost of present scooters. Customers who opt for the subscription plan will have free access to the AtherGrid and Ather will also reimburse them via an e-wallet every 3 months for charging the scooters at their residence or any other private location. The option for the annual plan costs Rs 9,912 and the quarterly plan costs Rs 2,596.
The production for the scooter has already begun at the company’s facility and will come in a phased manner. The commercial production of the scooter is set to start from July 2018 and the limited pre-booking have begun on Ather’s website. It is one of the type scooters and looks fresh and appealing enough. The scooter is a premium offering and is one of the most expensive locally-made electric scooters in India. The test rides for the scooter are available from 8th June.
