Drag races are a common method among online automobile media houses to compare the straight-line performance of two cars
We are taking a look at a drag race between an Aston Martin Vantage V12 and MG Cyberster. This is an iconic competition between a powerful ICE car and an electric car. Essentially, this represents a clash of the eras. The Aston Martin is one of the most legendary products for decades. It is even rare among the top celebrities on the planet. On the other hand, the MG Cyberster is a perfect mascot for what an electric sports car in today’s modern era should embody. Let us compare the power of the two here.
Aston Martin Vantage vs MG Cyberster Drag Race
This drag race has been conducted by CarExpert on YouTube. The popular car expert has the two convertible cars with him. For the first round, he takes the MG Cyberster, while his companion drives the Aston Martin Vantage V12. On the count of three, the two drivers press the accelerator hard. Interestingly, the Aston Martin’s wheels spun which caused a delay in the launch. As a consequence, the Cyberster took the lead and eventually won the round convincingly.
For the second round, the Aston got a better launch than the last time. However, the inherent torque of the Cyberster was just too strong for the V12. Resultantly, the electric sports car took the second round also. Thereafter, the duo decided to test the acceleration of the two cars in a rolling race from 50 km/h. This time around, since the launch issues were out of the way, the Aston Martin and its V12 demonstrated their true prowess. It lunged ahead and beat the Cyberster for the first time in this race. They went again for another round of the rolling race but the result remained the same. Hence, the MG Cyberster won the regular drag race, while the Aston Martin Vantage V12 took home the rolling race winner title.
Specs Comparison
The MG Cyberster comes with a 77 kWh battery pack which powers two electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. This was the major difference between the two cars which lent the EV a better traction. Anyway, these electric motors produce a massive 536 hp and 726 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This propels the EV from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 3.2 seconds. On the other hand, the Aston Martin Vantage draws power from a 5.2-litre V12 twin-turbo petrol mill which is good for a whopping 700 PS and 753 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties is an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox allowing an acceleration of 3.4 seconds for 0 to 96 km/h. Hence, both these are quite capable products.
